Well make ships in ships screen invisible instead of unselectable.....

so that you dont know what ship you will get with next rank/badge it would add a more sort of a "COOOOOL" moment to the game .

Or maybe leave them as selectable, but the pic and description is replaced by a:
"Classified data, restricted information."
Until you are eligible for the ship?

Would give it more of military kind of feel maybe?

I agree, being able to see the Dreads and Stations so you can drool on them was an important part of the game for me.

And im pretty sure i would have prefered to drool over ships then see them once i get the rank.

Seeing what i would get at a higher rank also was a good reason for me to keep playing.

So then, maybe a pic of the ship, but with the "Restricted" text across it, and with the specs blanked out so you can see what you're gonna get, but not know exactly what its capabilities would be?

Yeah, this was a big debate way back in original alpha...

I still think it's better to show all ships, makes you want them more when you can see the specs but can't take the ship yet because of your rank.

Bad idea. One important aspect of being able to see advanced ships when you are of lower rank is to know what you can and cannot take on.

And while they debated, the clouds came together in a tumultuous crash, as thunder roared, and lightning streaked about the sky, brilliant fingers of electricity arcing above.

As they all stopped, and looked in awe at the sight above them, the big F spoke unto them.

"I like it the way it is."

And so it stayed. And it was good.
