wOOt!! Formatins.. I have a list i was going to use to teach my fleet when the numbers were higher..

Ive heard alot of people say they are a worthless concept and ahve no place in DS .. however occasionaly on FA and Newb ive accualy gotten peole in formatsions for combat or bombing or escorting Missles ships .. and we mopped up almost all the opposistion with minimus losses....

Faustus i would be happy to provide a few and even some advanced ones that could really only be used when particular ships are present..^_^.

A thought on shipyards:

Perhaps the planet based ship yard should be able to make:


  • Scouts
  • Transports
  • Engineers
  • Supply Ships
  • Frigates


Tael suggested having the shipyard have to research the higher level ships in order to build them.

I was wondering:

Could we make a platfrom that is responsible for these larger ships? Initially it can build destroyers. Each add on lets it build larger and larger ships, until you have added on three parts to build stations. Each add on also speeds up the construction of the ships smaller than the one you just got the ability to build.

This platform can only function if there is a functioning shipyard on the planet it is arround. If the shipyard is paused, the platform is paused. If the shipyard is scrapped, the platform is scrapped. The platform would act as more of an extention of the shipyard than a separte entity.

But it shouldnt be too easy to scrap this platform to prevent easy sabotage there. It should have a countdown and a message that it now stops funtionality and is going to be scrapped. During this countdown you can easily stop scrapping process and if you start scrapping again the countdown starts again.

Concerning the ship yards... my plan was to let them make ANY ship the planet has the resources for, however it does sound like a good ideal that shipyards must be upgraded to build some of the larger ships.

I think space stations must be built in orbit, since they are so large... who knows.

I'm curious as to how an engineer will go about building a space station. Will he just select a point in space and have options of various platforms?

Can they be built in deep space, or only in planetary orbit? And if both, how do you decide when it's in orbit, and of what?

I'm just wondering how it will work...

Indeed, sabotage is one of the major issues that I assume will be addressed in the course of this to do list.

I make this statement assuming that the to do list is only a framework, and not an exhaustive list.

Since a system for espionage and sabotage are part of the diplomacy system, I imagine that any sabotage that falls outside this system will be dealt with.

I personally think mid-space would be one of the ideal places for space platforms. I'm thinking something like what the support station is supposed to be, which is a deep-space craft to repair and reload ships, offer protection, and in the case of a platform, offer a place to upgrade/sell/buy parts - sort of a miniture planet. I don't think all platforms should be like this, but there should be a way to make a "forward post" in a system which you can keep hidden.

I agree.. you could make Spacestation's avialble to each fleet.. "One" per fleet at a selected location in deapspace.. they could serve as the spawning point for that Fleet (when they docked with it.) and allow them to store parts there, which would require them to transport materials to the station... just an idea rather then everyone starting at the same location when they enter the game (unless they logged in thier ship somewhere) It would really make the fleet work more like a fleet really would.

Hrrm shipyards...

Ya know what stuck me as an idea.

Allow only transports, scouts, engys and frigates to be spawned from the jumpgate endlessly.

All larger ships MUST be constructed at a ship yard before they are available to pilot.

Basically, say you have a shipyard up and you want a cruiser. You'd click on the cruiser and queue one up. In 5 to 10 min one would be finished and your team would have 1 generic cruiser in your shipyards to be selected and flown by ANYONE, any type of cruiser.

I'd like that, then you'd have to defend your infastructure so you can keep flying your big ships!

Thats sorta the plan ash..

However, I don't think a 10 min build time for a dread would fly... just requiring the metals, heavy metals, etc... would be enough.

I like it - but what about this addition if it hasn't been discussed before.

Why not allow players to custom design a ship during construction up to the tech limits available? Instead of taking stock ships and modifying them?

Combined with some of the other features, perhaps a designated individual or group of individuals could custom design a few ships and make them available to their fleet or even the entire faction.
