It's getting ridiculous, people are issuing FF orders and think it's funny or something. If it shows the name of the person who sends an order at least we'd be able to find out who's responsible for it, because while I haven't personally seen it happen yet I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some new players actually follow orders like that.
I don't see how an order to attack an ally can in any way be accidental since you have to click the target multiple times to get it to show as an attack order.

Report it when it's happening, we can't do much about it afterwards.

There are many orders in game by just clicking an object.
- Green object: go to, defend, attack.
- Red object: attack, go to.
As the AI won't do anything when the CPU usage is high and target can also be planet, I suggest using only "go to".

See, I like this suggestion not for the reasons that Tal has given above, but just so that I can know if the person issuing orders is actually a competent person (or the person in charge) or just some random player playing with the right-click options.
It would lead me to use the orders system on other players more, too.

They have to have a high enough rank to order you, so they at least have a grasp of basic game mechanics.

There is other issue with order. Once AI receives order from a player, it won't take the order from higher rank player until the old order is fulfilled.

Oh trust me.
It can be accidental. I've accidentally given orders to attack/defend targets myself. So don't be surprised if you're checking on your team and you make that mistake.

| I would say this is not always true.

I agree. I think this is what's happening most of the time when you see someone giving you orders. The people giving the orders do not even realize they are doing it.

I like this idea. Should probably filter out orders on friendly target too...

You have to click someone, then click a friendly target THREE TIMES to give an attack order. I give AI orders very, very frequently, I often manage to give a player or two orders as well while rapidly clicking through the AI and I've never once managed to give a player an order to attack an ally.
Hell, just disabling attack orders for friendly targets entirely would solve that, if all you can do is give go to or guard orders then it's no longer an issue at all. We can't order AI to attack a friendly target so why can we order other players to do it?

Most definitely not true. I can think of a few GA/Marshal/CM that I make it a point not to listen to because they don't know what they're doing. [ This Message was edited by: Talien on 2011-03-21 12:22 ]

I think it is also better to show who gives the order. I sometimes get orders to kill someone halfway across the game, which i'm not executing then. If it is shown who orders it, you can just send a personal message.

Besides lack of time from developers, I see no good reason why this idea isn't implemented. My feeling is, if you order another player to do something, you should be identified and be ready to defend your order. Darkspace is a game, and is not like the real military where orders down the command chain must be followed without question. An order in this game should act more like a request or act to give guidance to players, and the player given the order should be able to confront the player giving the order for an explanation.

Thats at least what I always thougth about it. It is a game and if your in battle you can follow up the question. OUtside of battle you can always ask why
