I really Like this idea so I am rehashing it... I would really like to know the plausiblity of Torpedo Spread Patterns being an option in the future of this game? Behavioral patterns could also be added to fighters and missles as well...keep the other on edge....
The old idea
But this one's a keeper....a legitimate and plausible idea
When right clicking on a Torpedo there is the: Remove item box you can click...so why not add a few more practical ones
Cluster Spread: This is what Torpedos fire presently...default setting
Effective against large, slow moving objects. Maxium punch, if you hit.
Scatter Shot: This would spread the torpedos out over a much greater area when fired at their targets.
Effective against smaller, fast moving targets: Destroyers and full steaming Cruisers. Many of the torpedos would miss the target, but several would hit. The larger the hull, the greater the chance of hitting.
Continuous Fire When the torps are fired, they come out one at a time at rate that allows the first one to recharge after the last one is fired.
I do this a lot anyway by numbering each tube. With this, the space-bar would take care of it for me.
Rifled Shot Removes the tracking but increases the spead, range and reload of the torpedo by 25%. perhaps a better name could be thought of
Probably a bad idea as it would allow Station killing to get even easier, but something along the lines of increased speed and range for decreased accuracy and maybe damage.
By clicking one of these boxes in the information window of the weapon (much like changing a beam to point) all Torpedos would change their fire type. There is plenty of room for different types.
The first three I think would be the most effective, or atleast they would add a small level of consideration. Especially since the Cluster Spread is what we all use now. The Scatter shot wouldn't be a small craft killer as most of the ordinance would miss; however, enough salvos would eventually prove to be more effective than the present mode.

err i think non tracking torpedoes hit more often. Its just that with the invetion of tracking torpedoes people started dentonating them.

Excellent ideas. Some of these would be unique to full mounted torpedos, whereas others could be used with fix forward or rear mounted tubes - full could be set to different spreads, fixed for various fire rates.
Also, AM torps could be used for one varient, while Proton for another etc - overclocking or rifling, etc.
Could be used to balance the factions by having each use different spread/fire rates/patterns.
Thumbs up!

Lunatiq has 3 replies for 3 times the support of your ideas! And they are good ones wonder if they'll be considered?

i like =)
i think maybe cluster fire should be only method of fire that tracks tho, and that tracking should be decreased. torps are suppose to be medium range bombardment or close range combat weapons that require some skill, they dont really now tho

Wow...I feel like I'm special and I just won the three legged race at my father's office party...by myself.
I have to disagree some with what Lark said. Torps require immense skill when up against ships smaller than Dreads and pilots who know how to turn.
The destroyer is a fine example, and I'm not refering to anyone particular factions. The AssDessy, the MineLayer and the UberKluth dessys all require some real hutzpah to engage successfully in a Dread or Cruiser.
Same old strategies everytime.
With new firing methods, both the dessy and the Attacker will have to be more flexible, learn more skills and generally prove that they can not only learn by rote, but also evolve on the fly.
An added level to pressing the space-bar, thats all I ask.

I like all exept contunous fire. The last thing we want to do is turn space bar into the only combat key. But overall I like.
~Edit~ Oh and i almost forgot, you could call that non guided shot an
overload shot. Kinda got it from the old Star Trek games with the overload
photon torps.
