XP Home vs W2K Pro. |

Well I just stayed up all last night and completed my home network. Here's the situation. My older PC was beginning to show it's age so I got a new one. I also got a syslink's cable router / 4-port hub to share my bandwith between the two.
I now have W2K pro running on my old PII-450 and the new PC (P4-1.7GHz) came with XP Home.
So I'm looking for some info from those who are running either of those OS's w/ DS (Previously I ran DS on the PII-450 under 98). Any problems/issues I should be aware of before I choose which PC to put DS on. TIA

128 RAM
W2K Pro
on board sound - turtle beach (I think)
Voodoo 3

Aye what the heck!
I just installed it on both. That way if the wife wants to surf or read mail then I can just jump on the other one. I'll post here if I notice any complications / differences between running DS on those two OS's.
So far both run squeaky clean - no problemd with installing on either.
DS looks quite nice on my new PC as well - the old one couldn't handle the "highest" video settings selection.

played DS on win2k pro and winxp pro... both work fine... home is just like pro except some features missing and easier of use i guess...

That made me laugh smokey - Bill's definition of easier to use cost me at least another hour of configuring that machine to my specifications as I had to search out everything MS was trying to hide from me in the "home" version. I would have just formatted the thing and started over with 2Kpro but I wanted to check XP out.

ahaha i was going to say *dumbed* down features since it does try and hide that stuff... even in Pro some features you got to dig for...

Hmm no PRO and Home are the same and not éasier to use or something.... on www.microsoft.com you see the only difference is that PRO can read NTFS and all the Thinks that belong to NTFS.....
So its the same... hmmm on Win xp its cool that you dont have to install alll drivers.

there ARE more differences - like the "remote desktop", but that has no influence on how to use it as a PLAYER-system

when i say easier... i mean more Wizards and alot of technical stuff *dumbed* down to make it easier to understand...
but yeah there is a difference between Pro and Home... personally IMO i wouldn't use anything but the Pro version of XP, but that's just me...
