This should be a priority fix guys. If we can't play, we won't pay!!! That MFC prob is the same thing I am having as are others. Lets get on the ball gang. I have XP Home as well.

This is a YEAR OLD PROBLEM. It does NOT apply to the current build.

This does seem to be a different comment situation - as the original post is for Windows 98 not Windows XP.
How about posting as much information about your problem as possible than just giving us a generic "it's just like..." post.

"GCQL MFC Application has encountered a problem and need to close" is the message I get when I try to get into the lobby. Many others are having the same problem with XP home version. I would send you the info in the crash data but it is huge and I don't know if I am able to attach a file. I am able to get into the Tutor no prob but I can't get into the Lobby.

A) Do you have DirectX 9.0c installed?
B) Do you have all the latest Windows XP updates?
C) Did you install DS on an admin account?

Yes yes and yes! It never seems to update either when I try to go into the lobby. I remember when I played it on another computer there were lots of updates. I still can't get into the lobby!!!!

Well this is a very, very old issue, that doesn't apply to the current build of the game. I'd suggest uninstalling any third party drivers and disabling any firewalls and trying again (just incase somethings blocking the ports DS needs to contact the servers).
Other than that, try updating your drivers and see if that works.

What drivers are you talking about? How can this be old?!? It is happening with the latest version!!! I am using the current build of the game and it isn't working!!! It is a problem with DARKSPACE, not my computer!!! I am not running a firewall! Other people are having the same problem. Not just me! If I can't play, I'M NOT GOING TO PAY!!! So DO SOMETHING about it!!! PLEASE!!!! Email me with the info if you have to.

ok, coooool down, we do what we can, and we do a lot
if this problem hit you now, it has different root's than the "original"
but there is a solution 4 every problem, we keep in touch
some stat's of your "machine" would be nice
aka....
Vid-Card (incl. Driver-version)
Mo-Board // Chipset (same ..)
Sound-Card (same ..)
XP (seems HOME) - version // SP??
have you any problems playing some other games??

That's just it, people AREN'T having this problem. This is an OLD forum topic that you posted in. This issue happened back almost a year ago now when Faustus updated some stuff in GCQL. The fact is, it IS your machine, since everyone else can get on fine (I'm using Windows XP, and I can get into it fine). I'd suggest giving us your system specs like Bumble said.
Another note, are you using Service Pack 2 for windows XP?
If so, reinstall directx 9.0c

www.ravenwarriors.com/darkspace/gcql.7z
Download that into a different folder and run gcql.exe.

What folder should I put that file in?
I tried using that file but it didn't work. You need to be more specific please.

its a compressed archive like .rar or .zip
i dont think winzip handles 7z but im sure winrar does
or http://www.7-zip.org/
just extract the contents of the file to a folder of your choosing and go from there

Correct, winrar and 7zip can handle 7z files.
Extract it to say, C:/GCQL or C:/DarkSpace. Then run GCQL.exe (make a shortcut if you want). If that works, you need to INSTANTLY (the moment you get into the lobby), click the update button. If you screw that up, then you're on your own, as it says in big capitol letters when you enter the lobby:
- IMPORTANT: Version 1.483 has been released, you MUST press the "UPDATE" button at the top of the lobby to properly update DarkSpace.
