In beta, thanks to the lower ECM/ECCM count, it looks like escort destroyers are going to actually be needed for the first time in a long time... Can't wait for beta to go mainstream.

No because of Border Cruiser. And Escort Destroyer doesn't even have ECM/ECCM, only a scanner, it's a pure PD ship.

The lack of eccm makes it somewhat less than it could be, unfortunately.

The reason I say it's going to be needed, is because missiles don't show up as often without the usual eccm cover, making an escort dessy more useful if you don't have sensor ships providing a blanket.

Nah, the UGTO Defence frig is where it's at. 4 ECCM, Scanner, and PD second only to ED/PD.
