Sounds like several players are up for a retry of the dico crusiers. While most players seemed to agree that planet dico fields are a huge necessity for defense. and are only a problem if you just want to cozy up to a planet and beam them and then freely run away. (yes i'm looking at you K'luth)

a dico field or at least ships that can produce a dico field out in freespace can provide a lot of annoyances. not that they wouldn't be awesome. such as blocking up common jumping lanes, trapping enemy ships. allowing stations to be able to move around safer more. and such. single players against that or new players could quickly become frustrated with that kind of play.

Therefore, let's tone it down. No field. Make a ship with weapons that effects the jump drive versus a planet style field around a ship. makes jumping around safer (won't get surprised stopped by a dico ship field) but also could turn away would be attacks with the notion that once they go in, they might not be able to get back out. I'm thinking like a torpedo style gun that when it comes in contact with Hull, it puts the ships JD on cooldown as if the ship just got out of a jump. So ships will have armor (and in the case of ICC shields) to protect from the gun, but once Hull is exposed the ship is now vulnerable to have it's JD forced on a cooldown.

Pros
-Allow more kills to happen in fights
-Potentially help even attacks at dico protected planets
-Add risk potential to Kluth, ie less easy for them to just pop in, alpha, pop out.
-due to JD cooldowns being Hull based, it would increase the appeal of lower Hull ships. For Stations and Dreads it could be very devastating, but to frigs or destroyers it's not that big of a deal.
-And just adding in another tool to help make fights more about strategy and less about player count

Cons
-Less engagements, more sitting around as people don't want to go in and then get stuck and die
-Lessen's the K'luth's beam warfare ability. (get stuck and die)
-Doesn't do much to help protect ranged allies from being jumped on.

No. A few does not make everyone.
