With the new ship layouts in limbo (meaning the community has no idea when they are released) I would like to see weapon platforms get a super mega umber beef-up I am not suggesting one hit kill but they should offer enough DPS to ships of all classes to allow the protection from player ships as well as MI and faction AI.
I would give a idea about what should be the layout of the new stronger weapon platform but I will leave that to the pros.
Please consider this the idea of platforms, as they are great it's just they are lacking in firepower to be useful save, Sensor plats and Repair plats. [ This Message was edited by: µOmniVore on 2011-07-06 14:43 ]

I would like to just see platforms that work. Weapons platforms right now work maybe 1 out of 10. I've built many at a time and only have one fire out of the bunch. Distance could use an increase too.

would be nice to use them to defend sy planets as intended w/o ai transport spamming.

Weapon platforms should be armed with multiple cannon batteries.

How about removing core weaps from the weap plats and replace them with multiple heavy cannons/psis, etc. With the planets being so weak and all, weap plats really need a boost.
Weap plats:
- 4 heavy cannons
- 2 heavy beams
Perhaps the devs can introduce more plat variants, like Defence plats (firing missiles?) but using the same model as the weap plats.
- 4 x Tier 3 missiles (Harpex, Shrouds, etc)
- 2 beams

We don't really need more plats, mostly just need plats to be exempt from being disabled when too many AI are active. Weapon plats often do more harm than good anyway with all the FF.

perhaps if platforms could discriminate between friend and foe a lot better.
that would make lots of ppl besides me happier.

Wasn't there a code that enabled AI to check LOS to the target before firing?

If there is it doesn't work very well, plats FF eachother and any players in the way constantly.

Don't Quote me i was suggesting that we have no idea when 1.670 is comming out
On topic I would much rather just have ai support ships and transport ships with platforms since combat ai usually just fight each other ignore players till they get orders.

I think Torp platforms would be cool.
Maybe set them the more resources the better the platform will withstand an attack. This would stop people like be from building 30 plats in 5 mins but with only the min resources.
