Just thought i'd do a post on AI engy's.
So, i was in Beta testing them out.
basically, they do a bad job of building the planet.im pretty sure i dont need to go in to detail.
With that, i bring a suggestion:
If a AI engy is orbiting a locked planet with a "build" order,
people can use that engy to build the planet, even if they are not there.
Example of use:
player captures planet 1 and 2, and locks them.
Player starts building planet 1 in his engy.
AI engy goes to planet 2 with a build order, but cant build.(locked)
Player commands AI engy to build specific structures on planet 2.
seams like it would be much less wastefull then the current system.

Seems like the easiest solution would be to relegate AI Engineers to repair duty only, or have an option to "save" the current status of a planet and if buildings are destroyed the AI will rebuild the planet to the state it was when the save was made. Having them automatically assist players in building structures would be good too, if there's an AI at the same planet you are and you start building a structure then the AI uses it's drones on that same structure so it builds faster.
Either way, completely disabling AI Engineers from building structures on a newly captured planet on their own would be good, they just waste resources because whatever they build ends up being scrapped because it's put in bad spots.

the save build template is a great idea.
perhaps make it a permanent save for the planet unless someone changes it and saves it?
may give more meaning to being locked to avoid someone ruining a good build? [ This Message was edited by: Marius Falix on 2010-08-09 20:53 ]

Yeah. The template is a good idea.
Another suggestion would be a build template.
i.e. A preset build order and position.
Defence planet - AI Engie would build defs evenly on higher up the planet's axis.
Troop planets - Build barracks
etc etc

Problem with template building is if a planet has lost a lot of population, technology, or power. (Food shouldn't be a problem if the AI engineer builds auto hydro farm first before upgrading to biosphere condensor as per build template). Major population loss should be dealt with the same way it is now - players disabling/reenabling buildings, so the system isn't completely automatic in that regard.
But what about technology? If a planet loses one two many variance generators, and does not have the technology needed to rebuild it due to the bombed cortex nexus, how is the AI engineer going to know how to get technology back up to rebuild it? If it could create buildings without the needed tech requirement, there would be little reason for player engineers to build there (aside from setting up templates), as the AI would get everything built up quicker.
While these are all good ideas, there just needs to be some careful thought on how it is implemented.

Can basically already be done..
(Easiest to do with luth while cloaked) Start every building on the planet upto 32 then once all are started tell AI engies to build the planet and they will finish the buildings =P
