The topic How About.... got me thinkin. Why not make a new type of ship with a new weapon? These new "core" weapons would be not quite as powerful as a real QST or SI, about 1/4 less power then the real deal.
The new names would be.
Plasma Torpedo (UGTO) Scientists have finally found a way to get a stable plasma shot to yield a high damage return. The Device is still experimental but the pressing war with ICC and now the K'luth has forced the UGTO's hand.
Tachyon Torpedo (ICC) Experimenting with Tachyon Particles, ICC scientists have found a way to compress these particles into a torpedo. Fired much like how the Ion Cannon fires this torpedo has a good damage rating. With the war worsening with the UGTO and K'luth the ICC quickly press this experimental device into service.
Bio Organic Torpedo (K'luth) Our brethren have found a new way to mutate our ships to provide us with a new device. Its a device that fires out an organic ball of flesh that when it comes into contact with any non living martial it immediately explodes, leaving an acid that melts through armor. My brethren we must use this new device to destroy the humans and the MI.
These are all torp based guns with about a 400, 600, 800 gu range respectively of there factions. A new experimental ship could be made mounted with these guns on them. ICC for example would take a HC and modify it with the new gun. The rank needed for the ICC and UGTO ships would be Vice Admiral but the K'luth one be 1st Rear Admiral. The ships would be loaded out with 2 of the new weapons.
