I happened to be thinking to myself today and stumbled upon an idea.
This idea is simple : When (not if) hitboxes are replaced with the armor literally, being wrapped around the ship, it would be a cool idea, to be able to hit or target certain areas of the ship which are weaker than others and cause more damage.
Makes tactical combat more..well..tactical.

Ent..Me Wubs you . That happens to be a VERY good Idea..It'd make people have to use their skills, and their ships to the full limit in combat.

That is a good idea. So what do you supose one is to do when an IT Missile hits his bridge and his sship blows up from that one thing?

Well think about it Wee, if you hit the bridge with a missle and it got through the hull, in terms of realisim, the pilot would be dead, and so would your ship, if you hit the engines and caused a chain reaction, then the ship would destroy itself from the inside.
However, this is realisim, and this is a game, no one likes one hit wonders used on them, so I doubt it would be drastic as that, but it would be powerful enough to turn the tide of a battle.

its fine with me as long as theres no way to kill a dread with one shot or pull a Star Wars and fly a scout into a station and blast its main reactor. That or send fighters to do it.

uhm actually if your an admiral you wouldnt be in the bridge of the ship you'd be in the CC and the captain driving the ship would be on the bridge, but you'd be in command of the ship, then also you could make a make shift bridge in the CC and in an engine room, or even in a secluded area on the ship, and any designer would probably put a 2nd bridge on the ship anyways especially a dread, it would take some time though to transfer command from the bridge to the engine room or bridge. Personally Id like it if we could target and hit subsystems on ships, like if I were a scout vs a bigger ship say a destroyer, no way am I going to have an easy time killing him, so why not target his weapon systems and force him to run or give me an easier time killing him? Plus also engines tend to be a weak point on any ship, the hull integrity would generally be weaker there not necessarily armor but the hull would be weaker.

Well some criticial hits as in Fallout Tactics would be great
Being able to disable the ships sensors for example (to a certain point...)
Or being able to hit something important to the engine, only allowing the victim to go 1/3 of top speed
Or doing some special hit to a gun, disabling it

hmm that idea reminds me of homeworld 1.
front=strongest
sides=second strongest
tob/bottom=second weakest
engines/back=weakest
forgot to add that i mean the damage multiplier like front takes 90% and engines take something around 130%.
