Tired of all those excess IE drives floating around in the spaceport? What about dozens of reactive shields, particle cannons and cl300s that no one will ever use? Why not allow us to scrap them from within a spaceport and return the resources to the planet? Excess ECM or ECCM, CL1Ks, etc. etc. Retire them or scrap them, return the resources back for use building other items.

I suggested this once, and was dragged out back and beaten.

items should have a cap, but not be scrapped. say, 200 max on each item??
what would actually help more than scrapping the items is this.
ship selection screen has the "oy i only want dreads" button. why cant the startport have "Oy i only want engines" or "Hey i only wanna see lazers"
theres an idea to fix it

this could be too easily sabotaged.

Do you want to sit through the scrapping of five hundred AME Drives?
If so... what the hell is wrong with you?

Hell. Zanny has a stack of 1000 IE drives... if you sit through & scrap alla them I'll gladly remake all of the OTHER parts on Zanny... lol.
If you scrap a spaceport are the items destroyed or are they stored on the planet?

Ok, so I get the sabotage point and I like the idea of either limits or selector buttons. What bugs me (for ICC) is seeing reactive shields in 15 different bundles from 2 to 12, and i have to mouse over them to find the ACTIVE ones... and if no one is going to use CL300s, why keep them floating around?
So maybe items can only be scrapped by fleet members who control the planet (and by rank it is controlled). Impose limits based on tech level of the item (reverse, so lower tech holds fewer, higher tech == more desirable, holds more items).
Does that fix it all?

Why not just make it so that you can scrap Excess parts for Raw materials?

A recycling plant to do this has been suggested before, though in a future version, items wont be obselete, as such, just different, e.g. like IE drives are more robust, AME drives generate less energy but keep more speed. etc. More like like Torps are now.
What ever happens like that the order items appear in the stock pile should be fixed, so they are always in the same place, instead of moving around. Ive lost count of the number of times Ive bough the wrong item because the order suddenly changed as i tried to buy an item.

Limit it to 1K of that part, in 1 slot. any over is lost. If you sell over that limit you get the money, but the part is lost. You about never have 1k of what you realy want, like active shields and such, so all you loose is the junk no one wants anyway.
no scraping, no sabatog, just simple. The real problem seams that over 1k part it adds another slot for that part. yeah, anoying as heck to try to find a part with 6 slots of the same part ya dont want.
as for resources, about the only time you need them is if you flaten a planet. would seem more prudent to mine/trade resources from elsware to get it.

i think the main problem with the idea is the fact that there are greifers who will scrap even teh good items too
i like the idea of the limit, but what will happen to the stuff once its full?
what about if you have a time delay scrap/recycle, say 1 item per 10 mins(which will be automaticly done), or whatever seems fitting, so even if some greifer sets it to AME's then there is still time to set it to whatever
but i think then there will be need to be a new infomation type so that all you gotta do is click on a planet and see what is being recycled, i mean there is ALOT of planets in the MV

The problem isn't so much what happens when you have a max item in a stack... but GETTING all the items to stack!
If you're ICC, goto the home system & then take a look at Zanny's starport... there are about a dozen stacks of shields. 1 of them Active, and 11 Reactive.
Don't even delete them, just get them to STACK properly!
