Actually it is...
This way we do not need our entire faction to capture a planet.
We can now use 80% of our factions population (4 Extractors) to capture a planet...

so like, now ugto is doing it! lets all just fly extractors around, because all you need to cap any planet is 3 extractors!

Well all 3 factions do have access to the uber extractor. And guess what? It has TWO great uses! One is the obvious ecm protection it provides so you don't get hammered by defense bases. The other great use is as bomber escort. Yep! For some reason, in .481 bombs are affected by ecm! Well, not totally sure about mirvs but PCM and bios definitely are.
So grab your uber ecm extractors and make a dent in the MV in the name of your faction!
/sarcasm off (hehe it really is a cheesy tactic isn't it? I still use it though; it's brutally effective and is totally allowed by .481 game mechanics)

This is totally within the boundries of the game. While I don't like bombs being cloaked/ecm'ed against me, or extractors running up and capping, I'll deal with it, I can do the same. We are all able to take what Faustus gives us.....and exploit it within the boundries of the game.

Personally, I think its kinda cool to see 3 or 4 Extractors make a suicide run on a planet you are orbiting. Sure, if there is no one at the target, there is a good chance of sucess, but having beaten down a few of these suicide charges (and extractors put up 0 fight) I say the odds are about right.
And so what if they cap the planet...4 extractors are not going to hold it, neither are 4 other ships that they turn into. I see nothing wrong with it.
Now, if heavy transports could do the same (and they can if you have some frigates/scouts running cover) without help, I would have concerns. Till then...bring on the human wave, my stats need padding.

the problem being remote scrapping, a la, drop 30-40 troops, fast-cap, scrap the entire planet. capture at your leisure later. and this is "totally allowed" by the 1.481 mechanics, but a lame exploit of the bugs in the current code. and some plod has to go and re-engineer the entire planet for a few hours.. while this might be good pres for the aspiring engineer, you end up with a lot of screwed up planets =/

and btw, i know every faction has their "mod" planets etc.
When ICC capped earth, we brought 3 stations and about 20 more ships to cap it. Next time we'll just bring 4 extractors and make sure our control-X is working. thx!

I think the only problem with it is that extractors arnt supposed to be troop transports, is all.

Well, Draffell, me and a few others employed this tactic VERY successfully against ICC..
As far as K'luth is concerned, the problem here is as you certainly all remember the extractor is actually the only ship suitable for sensor support.. There is mouch choice. If it carries 10 Infantry too, the more the merrier..

I'd prefer to seperate sensor support and troop carrier roles.
