What if for certain weapons, the size class it was mounted on gave it damage bonuses. Like a scout would get only normal damage but a destroyer would get like a 10% bonus for Particle Cannon and a cruiser 15%. This should only apply to the weaker weapons like the basic cannons.
I was thinking of this simply because the Battle Dread gots so many Particle Cannons but can't do much due to the weak firepower. But Battle Dreads are getting balanced anyways...

I think what he is talking about is having the damage of tactical systems scale depending on the hull size they are mounted on.
Intersting thought, but as I understand it this would be cumbersome to implement in the game code. It would be easier to include multiple sizes of each device you want scaled, with multiple slot sizes capable of accepting a certain size of device. Then, you distribute these sizes accross ships according to logical size and space rules, to get a proper scaling and relative consistancy.

Do you really think they are supposed to do that much damage?

Last time I played beta, I was owning an EAD in an ICC scout with Rail Guns. Cannons are waaaaay powerful in Beta, or were when I was playing it.

Wouldn't it be easy to code the cannons so they fire X number of projectiles based on hull size?
2 for scout, 3 for frigate, 4 destroyer, 5 cruiser, and so on?

i still think they need to tone down the EMP cannon in beta tho, i mean seriously one volly can completely disable a ship,
what about makeing it 1 shot only weapon but keep the system damage the way it is?

Actually, the EMP cannon does about the right ammount of damage.
Ever notice how systems crumble almost instantly under any kind of damage? This is because components have too low of hit points. Particularly sublight and ftl engines, and reactors. Those are shielded by their very nature (I'm not talking about energy shields, but good old fassioned hunks of metal) and by design would be primarily buried within the hull. Weapons and sensors are mostly outside the hull, and so would have less hit points, though more than they have now.
Oh, and having the number of shots fired vary by hull involves the same technical difficulties as having damage vary by hull. In both cases, lag can cause big problems, and it would add a bunch of additional calculations to the servers that could instead be used to operate better things, like more intelligent AI ships (which we desparatly need).
