Okay this is one of my 2 mins thought idea's and i agree it still needs a lot of thinking but im putting it in none the less.
* so i can find it back *
I have heard about ideas/plans of implementing some sort of upgrade system.
that way you would get CL2K lvl2.
Now my plan is to have some REALY rare minerals to be required for this upgrade process.
These ultra rare minerals would only be obtainable from mining the various uninhabitable planets in our systems.
like the Inferno planet.
They could produce Red diamonds for the lasers.
and more like that.
Ofcourse ppl could sell them at the starports but the prices for obtaining them by buying them from a port would be VERY HIGH.
I know ill rework this idea in the near future.
But this idea could give mining a new use for when the systems are all build and the planets have 10890978709790 metals on em

yea, lets make the game all like runescrap and eve (upgrading and mining)
honestly im still hoping this whole "upgrades" idea simply vanishes from everyones mind.

YEah you right, lets give everybody a QSB cruiser and change the Name to QuakeSpace....
Anyhow, i like the idea. One thing: Rare UGTO resources should be in K'luth space. K'luth resources in ICC space. ICC resources in UGTO space.
Want Upgrades? Come get them

Exactly they have fixed points where you can get em and that makes it dangerous to mine them.
If you wanna do the upgrade option make it so that the oposition has a chance to disrupt those activiety's

dont get me wrong..
i just fear the thought to sit in sirius a few hours each day, engineering upgrades to other ships.
components should simply scale to the hull class they are mounted on.

Ds wont become Eve you know
Its just that some of us would like the game to require some skill to play.
Mindless spacebar smashing gets boring after a minute or 10

you mean it will slow down the games pace if, in addition to modding, you wil have to sit around with 2 people and wait for some programmed timer to tell you your upgrades are finished?
you have one wicked view of the game if i may say, this game needs to reward strategy and tactics better, and thats got nothing to do with it..
combat pres, tracking torps, the possibility for almost any solo runs, flawed ship designs.. need to go.
and then we need some really good implementations of mission and prestige calculation systems.

It has todo whit skill because a ship will need to SURVIVE!!!
you wont be able to upgrade a stock ship.
each ship you take out will get XP points and when you'll loose a nicely upgraded ship youll hurt like mad.
remember it takes skill to survive fights not just sit in space
