Heya,

Hope this gets to the right sets of eyeballs(you developer folks).

Having played DS on 2 seperate occasions now, I've noticed several things that are, hrmm, not unbalanced, but, if it were a real war, things that would require immediate attention, and the development of new equipment to deal with. What I mean is, if an enemy were beating yer socks off with a certain weapon, you would put alot of effort into countering or offsetting that weapon. I cant name all the things that would get such an effort, but heres a few.

Bombs - Its funny that the faction that has the most versitile amount of bombers, the ICC, ALSO has the BEST protection from bombs (planet shields, pulse beams and pulse waves to break up a bomb cloud)
I think after a while, any opponent of the ICC would feel worried about a bomb attack and would come up with something to help defend thier planets

Flux - Yes you are talking of limiting flux...but in reality an opponent couldnt hope for that, they would try to be clever and either limit its devastation by increasing defenses somehow, or more likely, create a special weapon that reflected the flux back to its source, sort of a mirror shield.

Cloak - yes the kluth have cloaks and love to hide, but after a little while, they cant hide by them selves, for most Kluth ships have 1 or no special slot for ECM, while both ICC and UGTO have some scouts with up to 6 special slots to find them. Now, if I were in charge of Kluth ship design, Im sure I'd add another ecm or 2 to several classes, maybe even come up with an Escort Scout having its own 6 slots. On the other hand, If I were a Kluth opponent, I would spend almost my entire research budget on a Cloaking detector, that could pick up not ecm/eccm, but the cloak itself. I would also try to use that cloak technology on my own ship when possible

I know there are differences in the factions on purpose, and I enjoy those difefrences. I am just saying that after a while anyone at a disadvantage would attempt to redress the situation. I am not asking for all 3 sides to have the same technology, Im just saying that nobody submits to an inferior position technologically.

Once again, feel free to flame away, but also... add yer own ideas if you have them....

Bombs - Gotta disagree with ya here. The ICC might have the only dedicated "Bomber Dreadnought", but it has some of least bombs out there. The K'luth's Frigate bomber has 4 Bombs. The UGTO Bomber Cruiser has 4 Bombs. The Clavate has 5 or 6 Bombs. The ICC's Bomber has the best combonation of ship-to-ship firepower and armor, but I wouldn't say its the best. The UGTO Command Dread can bomb on its lonesome. I'd say the balance here in reasonable, though at least 1 MORE bomb on the Bomber Dread would be nice. If that means adding a bit more defense to the others, thats fine.

Flux - I'll agree with you here, though limiting it should fix the problem. It seems very important now, but shouldn't be too much of a problem after the update.

Cloak - Agree with you, though you know people are just going to put on Reactors and other things and not cloak, which could prove to be more of a problem. Some kind of K'luth Anti-Sensor frigate might be cool.

hmm. how bout a type of mine, that generates a field (oh, 100gu radius or so) of a fog/cloud type deal. when a cloaked kluth passes thru (field all but invisible to kluthies) you can see the 'shadow' of the ship
that or some sort of mass-scanner, that detects the ship's mass

find some way of countering a dictor

hyperwave inertial momentum sustainer (i think thats what it was called, 's a starwars thing)
based on how drives work. ships have devises as part of the engine package than detects mass shadows (planets, stars, active dictors) and shuts off the jump drives before the ship slams into the mass shadow (which would be like stomping on a soda can). ships with the HIMS have a 'bubble' that sustains the ships jump momentum, even as the jdrives shut off due to mass shadow proximity. net effect, ship blows right on by the dictored area

ds-wise it would proably have to be a slot type similer to either dictor slots or the kluth's cloak slot (hull slot i think) as makeing it into the special slot would be a bit much. maybe put in drone or fighter slots..

I think ICC is a little over the top with it's bombers considering it also has the best defense against them.

The bomber destroyer is very easy to get and very good at bombing. The BD? It can level planets easily. UGTO's BC is good at it too, but ICC is still the king of bombers. Kluth, hmm. Does anyone actually use a clavate to bomb when the advanced carrier gets 4 slots plus 10 infantry?

It's funny, your ideas wyverlunder are the same as mine and many others. Why would the factions NOT develop counters to their enemy's best technology? And develop counters to those counters like a kluth ECM ship?

I just figure, even at this point in the future, humanity is still stupid, and the aliens are too busy 'breeding'

One would think that some advances would be takken place along those lines...

I agree, Flux needs to toned down some. But id prefer some sort of counter.. If i had a counter to it then i wouldnt have any room to whine about the UberNess of multiple flux..

In conclusion, real war is hell. Prolonged periods of conflicts often produce Major advances in reasearch and development. I would personally love to see more flexibility in this area or realism. because to me its a challange and that makes it more fun. But to the morons with bigger pocket books their definition of fun is different. cuz maybe they smoke crack.. and crak kilz.
