What can be done? To use aux shields leaves you under powered for combat and the regen is slow to start with, when most of the other faction do 10-20pts damage per volly so at most shields regen 2-3 pts per thier volly. And by adding the combat timer that regen is reduced to 1pt or less per volly, these figures do not reflect the use of enhancements which by the way has no effect on shield regen. So it might seem like shields are great right but lets say if the other faction would like to loose 3 arc's of armor to temp fix 1 arc in combat? Knowing that soon you have no armor on all 4 arc's

Active Shields are pretty much identicle to Standard Armor.

Your shields use more energy, but can be rotated, have zero mass, and recharge 4x faster when out of combat.

Don't believe me?

If anything, shields are rather superior to armor.

How does the repair rate of armor with a couple drones compare to shield recharge?

each repair device repairs 50 points of damage
standard armor self-repair is 140, with 2 drones its 240
active shield self-repair is 280, in defence mode (OOC) its 1120.
and if ICC are concerned about UGTO out-repairing their armor, consider skirmish shields (420 repair, 1680 in defence mode).

also, auxiliary shields - 200/800 repair without requiring energy to charge. actives need 0.06/0.08 EPS, skirmish 0.12/0.14

p.s. - interdictor device not in stats page, and skirmish shields show requiring 0.08/0.04 energy rate
composite armor shows repair rate of 110 instead of 120.

Skirmish is a bad choice as they guzzle energy, Actives are also energy hogs but at least they don't have a ridiculous resistance/weakness like Skirmish and Reactives. Add to that ICC aux reactors provide less power than UGTO/Kluth aux reactors. There's a reason most ICC previously used Reactives on anything smaller than Cruisers. If you want to keep a stable energy supply in combat Reactives are still the way to go, but then you have to deal with them being shredded by cannons/torps.

Aux shields are still junk, they cover 1 arc which can't be chosen and replace an aux reactor. If they were full coverage they MIGHT be worth using. Would you trade an aux reactor for an extra plate of standard armor that covers a single arc?

But hey, what do I know? I don't even play anymore.

The advantage of shield is rotation. So when you're in AD, you can always face front to enemy and direct shield to the front arc - strongest attack with best defense in the same time. You can't do that with EAD or Siphon.

To be honest, ICC combat ships are the easiest ships to extend fully their potential in combat because they can fight and defense at any direction.

Without the support station, UGTO is not awesome. That's why in the battle, there is always at least one UGTO SS in the fleet; but not often is there a ICC SS.

IMHO: a fleet of ICC combat dreadnaughts is superior to a fleet of UGTO battle dreadnaughts; a fleet of ICC support stations is inferior to a fleet of UGTO support stations.

whinge whinge whinge, (sorry point)
There is always gonna be something wrong,. just bring back mass depots so the ugto and kluth will be happy.
ICC takes skill to do well..,. I'm cool with that , aren't u?
