"The Dark Knight" is still on the tip of everyone's tongue. But now, instead of folks breathlessly asking each other if they've seen it, talk has turned to speculation over Batman's next foe. Who's it gonna be?
iVillage is reporting that the Caped Crusader may take on the Riddler in "Batman 3." According to the rumor mill, Johnny Depp might sign on to play the nefarious super-criminal. But caveat emptor—this could be just as false as the one about Crispin Glover playing the Joker.
Slashfilm notes that there are additional possibilities floating around. For instance, Phillip Seymour Hoffman may play the Penguin or Angelina Jolie could don Catwoman's skin-tight suit. Truth or fiction, fanboys around the world must be having a heart attack at the mere possibility.
Still, the "official" rumor mill is just one of the ways superfans are checking in on the next Batman flick. Many seek the scoop themselves. We've noticed impressive searches on "batman 3 rumors," "dark knight sequel casting rumors," and "batman's next villain."
That last query is very telling. People clearly want to know the answer, but we doubt even the filmmakers have decided. To that end, may we offer the studio execs this humble piece of Search-informed advice:
Go with Catwoman. She's far-and-away the most popular baddie and there are already a slew of searches on possible cast members including Jessica Biel, Amy Adams, and, wait for it, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Do fans think Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's one-and-only, was really the Catwoman all along?

.. what movie are they trying to replace.
Because if i count correctly it should be Nr 7
or 8?? (i keep forgetting if i may count "The batman" from 1943 as a movie.)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin would be the worst thing to happen to Batman since Robin.

aye, it would, but Johnney Depp as the Riddler could be the best! And in the tradition of Batman taking on two villans at a time, of course catwoman should be in it. And Angelina would be ok...long as she doesn't shoot herself in the head. Or better yet they could use Jessica from the actual Catwoman movie and have an easy to like villan that doesn't have to stay one.
And unless they place the next movie a decade or so in the future, Robin wont be along for awhile because he was supposed to be the same age or slightly older than batgirl. And we saw Gorden's daughter was a baby.
Honestly I was so disapointed...If they couldn't get Katie Holmes for Rachael, they should have killed off the character or not had her in this movie anyway. I hate cast changes between movies, its retarded and only James Bond should be allowed to get away with it. And actually by the end the joker needed to be firmly killed with two face left for later movies or firmly killed.
They should follow the hint from 'I am legend' when they show the batman/superman crossover movie poster. With the smallville clark instead of the one from the last movie.
