The groups have also requested the FCC to fine Comcast $195,000 per affected subscribers. In case you were wondering, at last report, Comcast has 9.1 million subscribers.

We don't really think Comcast will be forced to fork out the projected $1.77 trillion

more below and on another post.
----------------------------------------------------
Your hard work is paying off! Just one hour ago, the Federal Communications Commission voted to punish Comcast for violating Net Neutrality and blocking your right to do what you want on the Internet.

This win is yours. Defying every ounce of conventional wisdom in Washington, activists, bloggers, consumer advocates and everyday people have taken on a major corporation and won.

Today's vote at the FCC is also a precedent-setting victory that sends a powerful message to phone and cable companies that blocking access to the Internet will not be tolerated from this time forward.

News of this win is now being covered by every major news outlet as a turning point for Net Neutrality. Many more people are discovering our people-powered movement for a free and open Internet.

We need to capitalize on this momentum to grow the movement and ensure that Net Neutrality is protected on all 21st-century networks. Help us send a message to this Congress -- and the next one:

Join the Internet Freedom Movement: Stand Up and Be Counted

In the past two years, more than 1.6 million of you have already contacted Congress and the FCC. But that's not all. You have sacrificed time and energy speaking out at town meetings, collecting signatures on street corners and on campuses, and spreading the word via blogs, Facebook and house parties.

With your help today, signing this letter and forwarding it to friends, we can increase our ranks to more than 2 million.

Today's FCC victory is a milestone, but our work is far from done. Companies like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon are continuing to fight Net Neutrality using lobbyists, lawyers and campaign contributions. These special interests should not be allowed to set Internet policy for the nation.

Tell Congress: Keep the Internet Open for Everyone

The Internet's true greatness lies in those of us who use its level playing field to challenge the status quo, create and share new ideas, take part in our democracy and connect with others around the world -- without permission from any gatekeepers.

With your help and commitment, today's win will be just the first of many to protect innovation, free speech and democracy on the Internet.

Thank you!

I slamed out the net neutrality question... they doged it somehow!!!
This was done at my other residence where I have quest and not comcast. It was for protection that I did that.

[10:24] Travis > I have a question about net neutrality.
[10:24] advanced_tool_log > user Travis_ has entered room
[10:24] advanced_tool_log > analyst Rizza has entered room
[10:24] Rizza > Hello Travis_, Thank you for contacting Comcast Live Chat Support. My name is Rizza. Please give me one moment to review your information.
[10:25] R
izza > Hi there! How are you today?
[10:25] Travis_ > I am alright.
[10:25] Travis_ > I just have a quick question about your services.
[10:25] Rizza > Yes, please go ahead.
[10:25] Travis_ > I just recently red up on there FAQ's and it says you will prioritized network traffic in some cases...
[10:26] Travis_ > just to what extent is internet traffic prioritized?
[10:26] Rizza > One moment.
[10:26] Travis_ > aswell as the triggers to the prioritization.
[10:31] Rizza > Thank you for waiting, Travis.
[10:32] Travis_ > I is no problem.
[10:32] Rizza > Network traffic can't be controlled but as a way to minimize, if we see that a Comcast site is being abused, we do limit the users who can access it.
[10:32] Rizza > That is how we prioritize network traffic
[10:32] Travis_ > I am sure it is not a question you guys keep on hand. most users arent as technical as me.
[10:33] Travis_ > let me link the page
[10:33] Travis_ > that wasnt what I was refering to.
[10:33] Rizza > Alright.
[10:35] Rizza > Are you still there?
[10:35] Travis_ > Sory im diging aroudn the site to try to find it.
[10:35] Travis_ > I cant find it again i will look at a later time...
[10:35] Travis_ > but what it said
[10:36] Rizza > I see.
[10:36] Travis_ > "if the service was used excesively the priority of the users request woudld be reduced."
[10:37] Travis_ > so for instance if i was downloading a 3gb file during peak hours the service would prioritize it lower than somone loading a webpage...
[10:38] Travis_ > is this not true as i read it streaght from your FAQ's[10:40] Rizza > Well yes it would. But still we don't have control over internet traffic especially during peak hours.
[10:41] Travis_ > I have another quick question for you then... why is it that at 12 at night even 2am when I am trying to download file is my bandwith geting throttled?
[10:42] Travis_ > my other residence is in sunset utah
[10:42] Rizza > May I ask what size the file you are trying to download?[10:42] Travis_ > simple 90mb file
[10:42] Travis_ > most much less tahn that i get throttled on 20mb files aswell.
[10:43] Rizza > I see.
[10:43] Travis_ > I will go from 500kb+ down to 200kb roughly... in the middle of the night.
[10:45] Travis_ > I dont overuse the service as I dont constantly have things downloading... so that is why im not understanding why my bandwith is throttled.
[10:45] Rizza > I see.
[10:46] Rizza > It really depends on the bulk of the user, Travis. So, could be that you were accessing it at the same time with a lot of other users. [10:46] Travis_ > at the same time...
[10:46] Travis_ > in the middle of the night my naborhood is sleeping[10:47] Travis_ > I know it is not other users because I was useing the internet during a power outage and it was still just a bad... I just dont understand what would be causeing the throttleing.
[10:48] Travis_ > You can see my fustrations...
[10:48] Travis_ > at least you should.
[10:50] Rizza > I understand that your frustrations, Travis.
[10:51] Rizza > But as of now, that is the least we can do for network traffic.
[10:52] Travis_ > your not geting it... during a power outage
ther eis rarely anyone useing the service... during a poweroutage im sure not many people have a 2 hour backup power on there computer system. just tell my why is the bandwith being throttled.
[10:52] Travis_ > as it is against the Net Nurtrality law.
[10:57] Rizza > Have you tried to reset your modem Travis?
[10:58] Travis_ > I have used multiple modems in the same location.[10:58] Travis_ > same problem
[10:58] Travis_ > yet my cusin only 1mile away dont get throttled and he does the exact same thing I do...
[11:00] Rizza > I see. alright Travis , here 's what were gonna do , I am going to make a report regarding this issue. This will be given utmost priority. May I have your contact number please?
[11:00] Travis_ > depends on what one you want.
[11:01] Rizza > The contact number please.
[11:01] Travis_ > the account contact number or the contact number not tied to my account or residence?
[11:02] Rizza > It should be the account number, the phone number registered in the account as well as your full name please.
[11:02] Travis_ > I am sory but due to privacy and the situation on the matter I cannont give you that informaion...
[11:02] Rizza > I see. Alright. Thank you for raising the issue though. [11:03] Travis_ > it is for my protection. as a comcast customer.
[11:03] Rizza > Well, I will just have this noted.
[11:03] Rizza > Thank you for using Comcast’s Live Chat support, is there anything else I can assist you with today?
[11:03] Travis_ > ok thank you.
[11:03] Rizza > Have a good day, then.
[11:03] Travis_ > no that was all i needed to say and bring to yoru attention.
[11:03] Travis_ > you too.
[11:03] Rizza > Alright.
[11:03] Rizza > Thank you for contacting Comcast. If you need assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us through Live Chat or E-mail (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). Simply visit www.comcast.net and select Help.
[11:04] Travis_ > please send a copy of this chat session to darkspendeck@hotmail.com thank you.
[11:04] Rizza > No problem.

Comcast could receive hefty FCC fine for throttling Bit Torrent traffic
Posted Jan 8th 2008 10:00PM by Jason Harris
Filed under: Internet, Social Software

Remember October's news of Comcast throttling Bit Torrent traffic? The debacle not only created a firestorm of bad press for the nation's largest cable provider but also re-ignited the nationwide debate about Net Neutrality. We had numerous signs that Comcast was inhibiting our use of this legal and legitimate file transfer protocol, but to have the AP catch them red handed was icing on the cake.

To add to our pleasure, we learned today that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has finally taken notice of Comcast's indiscretion as well. According to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, a group of consumer advocates and legal scholars have asked the commission to look into Comcast discriminating against specific types of data (read: Bit Torrent). The groups have also requested the FCC to fine Comcast $195,000 per affected subscribers. In case you were wondering, at last report, Comcast has 9.1 million subscribers.

We don't really think Comcast will be forced to fork out the projected $1.77 trillion, but we do hope they get scraped through the mud on this one. They completely disregarded their entire customer base and should receive far more than just bad press as a result of this. If you are a company and you're going to filter network traffic, be transparent and disclose it up front. If not, be ready to pay up to Mr. Martin.
