best fix is to reformat and put XP on it. So many unsolved equations in Vista, it looks like one of my grade scool math quizes

Az has the BEST advice, but if you don't have a copy of XP & need to get your music back to normal while you save up to buy XP & upgrade then I suggest you send a PM to Jack (Backslash), he is another poor soul who can't seem to upgrade to XP...

I think Vista is mixed for everyone.
Havent had a problem with it, but all I get from people are their problems. That said, most of these people probably couldnt figure out what the big x on the top right of the browser is for.

You and your linux.
Also, there might be a batch file you can create to do it... you can rename stuff in command line and batch files are just GUI for command prompt.

@Eledore
Don't file renamers just rename the, er, part of the file name that you see? Because there are actual Artist, Album, and Title variables, and I think thats what he wants to change.

@fattie
when i download the music vista automatically adds it to the folder like that.
also file renamers dont work they just take it and add the artist - title to the title column in the new folder that the renamed files are sent to.

I could write a very simple C++ script that removes a string from the file name. Would that work?

Not my fault it's better.
Ok, actually I have a fairly decent idea.
iTunes.
iTunes can convert massive amounts of mp3s into an organized structure including renaming the files with the correct tags.
There is a box marked "Keep Music Organized" with a checkbox.
Point itunes to the folder you keep all your music in to add to the library and voila. It will copy all your music to the folder you set and organized it all by artist/album/artist - songname.mp3 or something to that effect.
