Cloverfield is the name of the "1-18-08" movie that was previewed before Transformers and generated a ridiculously, unexpectedly great amount of hype. All that's honestly known is that it has to do with J.J. Abrams, his idea of an original monster so that the US can have it's own (instead of defaulting to something like Godzilla), and that it's a normally aquatic creature, attacking New York.
