After years of fighting with shoddy programming, intentionally bloated OS versions requiring hardware upgrades and constantly battling hordes of worm's, virii, malware etc....I have now officially and permanently migrated completely from windows.
The instability and insecure nature of the Redmond beast has finally dealt me the last blow.
And now that Vista crashed and burned, I'm just laughing my arse off. My fiance's laptop has vista and it's a steaming pile. OEM's are now out of frustration with Vista are offering, *gasp* DOWNGRADES!! ROFL.
After using linux for years on a spare desktop and servers, I've gone completely to linux.
Anyway, I'll be out of the lobby untill I get GCQL running on wine. Well I actually have it running now but I'm having trouble getting gcql to communicate.
As soon as I get it up I'll be online.
screenshot from my laptop enjoy....

Thats why I don't use operating systems. It's easy, and you get to practice your binary.

Also, binary jokes are stupid.

If you have a machine capable of using Vista, it'll run superbly for you. Otherwise, it won't. Same happened with XP, and look where it is now. Give it a year, everyone'll be on it.

Now doubt MS will continue with it's large share of the OS market.
And you're right, they've too much invested in Vista for it to die off(unlike ME). However to correct vista's problems will likely require much more manpower than it took to create it(it certainly will require a sight more thought).
But I will give Vista one thing, if it fails to get a good market share it should have for a win OS, it will be for trying instead of lack-there-of.
It's failed to gain it's user base because it's sacrificed usability for attempting to actually make a go at a real OS rather than hold everyones hands.
Failure is not an option, it comes bundled with Windows™.
Edit: Typo
