I have a Thinkpad A22p (it's really old), and I havn't changed it, so I guess if there's a default set of equipment, then that's what I have. When I try to open the CD-Drive, I only get a high-pitch, 3-second beep. I googled, and one thing said it meant the drive might be loose or something.
I'm really not good with hardware, can anyone guess what's wrong? :/

That's really not the kind of question that's easily answered without actually seeing the computer, or having the computer opened up. It could be the drive is loose like the search said, could be that it's jammed or the motor/gearing that opens the drive is borked. I really don't know. Probably best to have a tehcnician take a look. No matter what it is (unless it's a driver or OS issue, which I just can't see it being at this point), it's verly likely you'll have to crack that baby open to fix it.

It is beeping after all
If it was a desktop, I would say unhook its power and data leads, and then reconnect them making sure they seated properly
with a thinkpad, I am not sure if u would want to open case...

I'm ruling out opening the thing, because I'm completely inept with any computer-level sophisticated electronics.
I found a few things out, maybe you know what is wrong then
The drive shows on 'My Computer,' however, when I double-click it, it says "place cd in D drive" (something along those lines.)
If I select 'eject' or press the eject button, I get the 'beep.'
However, the drive does in fact read discs. There's this manual eject hole (the kind of holes that manual books suggest you find a paper clip and stick an end into the hole,) and I put a WCIII cd. Strangely, I hear the familiar 'whir' sounds, and the drive reads fine.
On the system tray, I have Adaptec DirectCD, which claims there is 'No supported CD-R/CD-RW drive,' which hasn't occured until now.
I thought maybe the motor to open the tray was broken, but I'm ignoring that because that's out of my capabilities of fixing. So, I'm assuming it's some driver / software associated problem.
The drive definitly isn't loose, I know that...
If it helps, the CD-Drive is a 'CRX700E'
I'll continue googling, but im hoping one of you guys has had a similar problem and was able to fix it
