okay, my GFX card (radeon 9800 pro saphire gold limited edition turbo marvel vs capcom) is on the fritz
I believe it is the fact that the fan on the card is not spinning. to me, this seems like a bad thing. Should I get a new gfx card (I need a new one anyway), or should I try finding a 3rd party GFX fan an reinstalling it?
I'm writing this in VGA mode (lol, 320x160), so I don't know how long it'll last. thanks for any advice ahead of time, I know you guys help me out even though i'm an asshat.
lots of love,
rob

If it's that bad that you're forced to run in that mode, then I'd say it's frized too far already, and you'll need a replacement, however... My 9800XT fan stopped working after a year of overclock madness and I put a fan on it straight away, do NOT RUN ANY GAMES if your fan has stopped. Aslong as it's running in 2D mode, the heat generated should be enough for the heatsink to handle alone - so booting into windows with at 1024x768 should be fine. If you really need to get a cooler, try get an arctic cooler 5, I put one on my 9800XT and it works perfectly, it is a duel slot solution, though - and it comes with its own thermal paste.

I don't need a cooler. my rig isn't super lol cutting edge. It's run fine. I think it has something to do with this "spread spectrum" thing that was enabled in my bios for my gpu. I've never needed that.
right now, I need a single slot AGP card that isn't too big. any suggestions, backy/community?
edit: backy, the thing won't even get about 10 seconds into window without the screen going a garble, and windows freaking out. I touched the heatsink on the card, and I almost burned myself. ...

What is the AGP slot multiplier for your mobo? that would help find the right card for you....

I suggested he try a third party heatsink since if it doesn't work out, then it's only $30 wasted, but if does, it's $180 worth of graphics card saved.
