X1300XT can run without a heatsink.
X1900XTX needs two take up TWO expansion bays just to fit it's heatsink and fan. So yes. If you overclock or screw up a faster card, the results are a lot more spectacular.
For instance.
I overclocked a X1300XT, a few artifacts on the screen, nothing spanky.
I overclocked a X1800XT beyond the beyond, and the back of the card started smoking, then continued to glow orange or red (I'm colour blind), and then the fan melted into the copper and stopped working. In the end, I couldn't touch the thing because it was so hot. The last reported temperature of the chip was just shy of 190 degrees C. God knows how it didn't catch on fire (although I promptly shut it off rather quickly when it started smoking).
