God...I swear ima hurt someone here. I know after everything ive gone through here sounded good and such after asking all the opinions and such. Now just 2 WEEKS from leaving im wanting to stay cause now after about a month ive created some really good friends here that will most likely be gone by the time i get back from the military.
I want to drop it all together, but my mother out of all people doesnt want me to because its a "Set in stone" future. Im sitting here thinking "Ok...I can do that here, just things like insurance arent handed to me on a silver platter." Plus if things werent to work out here at home, the military aint going no where, but my friends might and id prefer being with them and my family just earning a simple living here in my home town.
So basically what im asking is this.....HELP!!!!!!!

if you mean you got to get a job, no sweat, if all you got to do is pay for insurance, you can stand a part-time job...even with a full-time job it's easy to enjoy DS for 3-4 hours min a night and still get a good nite's rest before the next day. I got a full-time job, part-time job...and two ex-crazed girlfriends, but still manage to play DS 1-2 hours a day and more on my off days(get off days from both)

Well I will tell you one thing, I am in the military, working full time monday through friday (except when I go to sea and then its 7 days a week) but I still get to be in here, plus I get a paycheck, free medical/dental and get paid to rent a roof over my head, plus I can go to college which the Navy pays for 75% of the cost...
Can you get all that at home? Just a thought...

rejoined within six months of leaving and stayed another 7 years 6 months and 7 days (ish).
You will wish you stayed.
Cant beat the system, mate, one of the best jobs ever,
and for all the brits who remember Reginald Perrin,

If you don't want to join the army, DON'T! It's your life, don't let your family or the unscrupulous recruiters force you into it. It's NOT the 'best job in the world' if you don't want to be there. In fact, if it's not your thing, it's a bloody awful job that quite frequently leads to suicide.

It is one of the best jobs, it has security, good mates, great social life, cheap beer, cheap fags.
It is bloody hard work at times, it can be scary, you do miss your mum, ahh.
As for the suicide issue, thats pants.
If you wish to talk figures reagrding suicide then im happy to do so,
FACTS.
Drs
Nurses
Dentists,
Farmers,
Schizophrenics,
Self Harmers,
Mechanics.
The list goes on with regards to high risk categories,
FREQUENTLY????? cant see soldiers in there can u?
There is however some excellent work being done by the US army in recognising and treating soldiers with suicidal ideation, type it into google.
Unscrupolous recruiters??? Evidence please.
never met one of those, met some unscrupulous lawyers, MPs, DRs and even Nurses.
If you want to self discharge, nothing stopping you.

I dunno about the suicide thing, but the US army is a damn good place to risk losing an arm or leg.
Not much worse than being a machinist in a factory job, or a contruction worker, actually I think construction workers have around the same injury rate.
But getting shot at certainly does not prolong life expectancy.
And I know not everyone gets shot at.
As my friend Erin says, "I joined the army to be all I could be but apparently all I could be was a mechanic."
So yeah there's perks and if you go you probably will learn to deal with it, and find a way to not regret it, but it's your choice man.
Don't let anyone other than yourself convince you either way.

Talking him into it is the worst advice I can possible think of. Maybe you think differently, I suppose that's what military brainwashing does to you.

In this case, it is. The basic thrust of it, as concerning army recruiters, is that they target young people from the most financially deprived areas, then use very manipulative tactics to get them to join. It's common knowledge.
You must ask yourself why they only target poor kids. It's because, in America, it costs money to get a decent education. And, if you have that decent education and decent job prospects, why in the hell would you even consider joining the army?
The military in america, imo, is only a good choice as a last resort for a poor kid.

Your right! The military will always be there. Try to get a decent education and a decent job FIRST, then if that fails, you'll still be young enough to join the military. You'll be wiser for trying and the decision to join the military will be an informed one.

Ryan, at 37 years of age I have very few regrets (though I have done some things most people THINK I should regret), but at the top of the list is NOT joining the Military.
I went thru all the same things, GF, Mom, Friends, Job, blah blah blah.......in the end I let my Mom and GF talk me out of it.
I wish I had not done that. I think my life would be completely different from what it is today had I served.
But YOU have to do what YOU feel is right for YOU.
WE can't make this decision for you.
We love ya either way you decide to go.

Put it this way Ryan, if you like to get shot at then join Marines =P (im kidding so dont rediculously flame me for god sakes). If you want technical training, go to the airforce or navy. But do not do what you do not want to do. Why did you join the military? Nothing wrong with the military, it depends on how see things and what you want to do. So what exactly do you want to do Ryan? Well once you figure it out, go for it. Im in the same situation you are in Ryan, I dont even have a lisence, not enough money coming in at the moment. Bassically my situation is I'm getting kicked out of the house I live in, and my parents and my sister will move 3 hours south of my current location. And Im still in high-school in 12th grade, how will I find a place I live at? God knows how. I dont have a job or a car/lisence. Im offically screwed right now.
