I'm thinking seriously about putting together a design document for this ideal of having a seperate client/lobby for the ground combat and presenting it to a publisher.

Anyway, I'm trying to think of some good names, obviously it should fit in with DarkSpace...

i would say that "darkspace - ground control" is the best pic

1. question if you go with the RTS way will you be able to make new buildings. like make "small bases" which wouldnt show up on the real game. that then would give you the bases building aspect that i love(and alot of ppl love) in RTS's.

when is this gonna be developed? wouldnt it be better to develop DS. cus there some HUGE balance things that need to be fixed.

Faus= I have no idea what Masive Entertain ment did with their engine, but Ground Control has had the prettiest graphics engine for an RTS to date. If it would be possible to get liscene rights to such an engine, I think it might fit exactly what your trying to do.

Ground Control was a squad based RTS, where you would "drop" onto a planet with a set number of troops/tanks/fighters, and then control them into battle against other players to win a map. I played in games with as much as 8 people, and the lag was always associated with my graphics card, and usually not the game/server problems. The graphics are nothing short of stunning, and it is very sad that such a beautiful engine was limited to that single game.

Ground control became a flop because there was not much depth to the game in the long run. Though beautiful graphics and decent control, the strategy became a very repetitave game of cat and mouse, waiting and fighting back and forth attempting to lure your enemy into a trap while he did the same. It either became a giant, quick blood bath where a lucky person in the middle would win, or a long drawn out process where strategy was more based on who got attacked the least until the other forces got dwindled down.

If you have never checked out the engine or basis for this game, it really seems to fit into what your looking to do with Darkspace: Invasion, or whatever you want to call it. It might be a good idea to see if licensing would be posible (not to mention how much coding that could save you).

Just so you know, the game was published by Sierra.

Just my 2 cents.

The coolest thing that could happen is what the game Breed is doing. Breed is like BattleCruiser in that you can do space combat and take the fight down to the planet. It has vehicles and regular infantry combat. But what would be the coolest thing is that you and your squad leaves through the docking bar on say an UGTO dreadnaugh and you would see the dread get smaller as you go down to the planet. Also be able to see the MIRVs or PCMs. Don't know how feasable that would be but it would be the best thing to just watch as the dread you just came from orbit the planet from down on the planet .

Wasn't Imperium Galactica kinda like that (I don't know; haven't played, just thought I saw it) - you do your space stuff, but when you want to do planet-based activities, you actually go down to the surface and interact on the planet itself.

And my vote is for: DarkSpace- Ground Assault
Though Invader doesn't sound bad either.

What about Fighter combat?... Is that next on the list? (need more fighters first, obviously, but it could be fun)

I like Darkspace: Battleground myself.

It would be REALLY great if the missions you went on co-incided with MV invasions. That would be AWESOME!!!
