The initial beta of v1.482 is up. Please test it, and post feedback of any bugs you find here.
Known issues:
Text is missing from some buttons.
Windows 95/98/ME users might get an error when trying to connect. Be sure to have Internet Explorer 6, Service Pack 1 installed.

had NP connecting to the GCQL.
I do have the problem that when im ingame i get disconnected after 2-5 min whit the message: you have been disconnected whit the options quit and reconnect.
im using OS WinXP SP1

whenever I try to load the beta, it has two messages,
1) D:Program FIlesPalestarDarkspace BetaDarkspace.exe A device attached to the system is not function
2) The system.dll file is linked to missing export FACTORY.DLL:?classKey@Widget@Medusa@@SAABVUniqueNumber@2@xz

Lagged to hell for many people. Unplayable for me. Lag clears up in combat situations. Sounds like priority issues to me.

Extreme lag when initially taking a ship. (Comp locked up for 30 seconds, could not even get Ctrl-alt-delete screen to come up) Normal 1481-era lag everytime you take ships after that.
Just got disconnected for no appearent reason.

Super smooth.
Then, suddenly, complete loss of controls of my ship. Environment kept updating correctly, however. Just, all controls locked.
Then, disconnected from server.

I had much of the same probl. as Bomb. although i did not got dissed.
Once i was in map mode then senario ended and my comp freezed, a could do nothing but reboot.
..don't know if it is something to report.. but:
I jumped to a cluster of neutral planets and i got a bunch of mess saying that enemies was detected at those planets.. just as if they belonged to my faction... and no enemies was in sight..

Decent. SOmething different about it, i sort of like. Don't know what. When it was smooth, it was SMOOTH. When it lagged... it LAGGED.
I know something that would make the game infinitely better... if i was a vice admiral in it...

When selecting a ship from ship selection screen, comp locks up for about 30sec to 2 min. Win XP sp1. AMD 2400+, 256ddr

I'm running Windows 98SE and get the following errors:
Immediately on clicking the DarkSpace Beta Icon:-
'This application or DLL can not be loaded on Windows 95 or on Windows 3.1. It takes advantage of Unicode features only available on Windows NT.'
Followed by:-
'The MFC42U.DLL file cannot start. Check the file to determine the problem.'
After further investigation it seems that the 'MFC42U.DLL' just isn't compatible with any non-NT based operating system due to some of the system functions it requires. So this pretty much excludes Windows 95, 98, 98SE and ME so long as this is a required file to run the beta.
I have finally finished downloading all the Windows 98SE updates and still have the same issues. Have fully uninstalled and reinstalled the beta client including all registry entries and so far this has had no effect.

Okay, update to my observations:
I had the lag then disco thing happen. I selected reconnect.
I had the lag then disco thing happen again. I selected reconnect.
From this point on, the game was super smooth. No noticable lag. Connection was absolutely stable.
I also noticed in the alt-p screen that my latency would periodically go down to about 80, then gradually creep up to 416. It would then stay at 416 for a while (but not feel like 416 at all, felt more like 80), then eventually reset to about 80.

Same issues as the rest.
No labels, very very laggy, and seems to last up to 1 minute of play time in windowed before disconnects from server and imediatly does if any other video setting used.
Windows 2k either with or without firewall.
512mb mem
DX 9a
gforce 4 128 meg
intel fast gig ethernet.
Noticed also when launching game it says Version: 1.481 not Version: 1.482.
I verified the beta install and removed full v1.481 and beta and reinstalled beta still says version 1.481 on top.
I have noticed right before i get the disconneted from server my network monitor says my network is disabled and then it is enabled like it had to recover from a serious network error.

the screen freezes on me for about 30 sec
wen im near a uncontroled planet it detects enemys and im the only 1 there
not much lag for me but i get sum after a while
(normal)
the buttons (has been explained)
and i was a bit shocked that they said they wer makin new ships and there we none.

probably not related to the lag fixes, but neutral planets broadcast "enemy detected near ___" and blockade messages
also, gauss guns not showing up at starport after being built, AR missiles likewise, but pulse beams showed up fine
