Removal of AI transports... |

Well, I've been looking into the lag problems in the MV, and it's become clear that the AI transports are just costing us way too much CPU presently. (50% of all the CPU time is spent updating transports)
Basically, we have over 300+ transports in the MV currently, this is like having 300 players, since even more CPU has to be expended on AI than a player.
Until we can afford those QUAD-PROCESSOR servers we need, to completely remove lag from the metaverse means removing AI transports, and moving resources port-to-port directly instead.
I will keep the code so it can be enabled, but for now we'll make this change and see how it all works out.

Instead of removing them;
How about decreasing the numbers?
1 Big Transport ship per system that flies by all planets like a train, picking up resources and dropping them off at planets that have a shipyard?
This would also make piracy more rewarding
Or just frag em, anything to fix my lag

Yeah that reminds me;
A bit offtopic but being able to see all Human ships in the entire MV in your Contact list was handy.
Why was it turned off?
Oh and When will the trannies be removed? I cant wait to play without bouncing around like a bunny! w00t

But, if it's nessesary for the good of the servers, then so be it.

It brough a litttle doze of lag but it have given much more for it.It cant be judged by numbers.Play a bit and see what it means for us.A little of lag in nav is justified if you see the benefits of it.It became almost like a big scenarion server and it brought a lot of players.It was easier for a war easier to meat enamy and get people together.It was really great advantage over the previus version.Just becouse someone woke up day got lagy and said i cant have it doesnt men its bad just look at the whole picture.

A bit off topic;
How much money does Palestar approx. make off of the players subscriptions?

Work it out. You know the sub cost, there are approx 1000 ranked players, you can assume a good 20-30% are free subs by the small amount of prestige they have leaving about 800 paying players.

oh faust, just modify your kernel and make it HZ=1000...
Oh wait, Windows servers.
Better just go get a 32 proccessor model... only 40K on CDW (last time I looked)
/edit/
okay, you could keep it port -> port, considering you have wormholes now, which means that someone made some form of smaller wormhole for materials transport only to transfer items from planet to planet.
I mean, transport ships are so 2000.
