ECM stands for Electronic Countermeasure, when turned on it will decrease the enemy's ability to detect you, the more ECMs you have and the smaller your ship, the harder it will be for the enemy to see you. ECCM is for Electronic Counter-CounterMeasure, it's the opposite of ECM, and reduces ECM's effect.

Jump Gates are used to quickly go from one system to another, in the F2 map you should be able to see blue lines connecting the systems, where these lines end is where you'll find the Jump Gate. The name of a Jump Gate is almost always the system you'll go to if you use it. To use it all ypu have to do is fly right into it and you'll end up in another system.

Home Gates look like Jump Gates but don't actually go anywhere, they're more like free shipyards.
