What the heck is that? I can be mulling about under cloak for sometime, all the while maneuvering and all of a sudden a bright white flash appears on me and Im barely left with enough hull to hold on to as my hulk is left drifting in space.

It doesnt appear to be a fired weapon, in fact, it almost seems like an invisible mine or "depth charge" type munition that just devstates my poor little ships out of no where.

It always happens under combat conditions, but frequently after Ive disengaged or maneuvering back into the fight after disengaging.

The explsion has no tracer/trail to show that it was fired, it just appears.

My guess is mines. Watch for AI minefield layers.

Ive run into mines before(darn you Angel of Insanity and your river of mines), but what im talking about here had no icon/title in the HUD.

If they were mines, they were invisible.

He definitely jumped through minefield, there is nothing to help him at that speed...

From this topics, I hope that KLuth will have a new mine whose signature is negative.

Bad idea. We all saw the issues that shrouds caused where you couldn't see them, much less PD them even when the area was lit up with mass ECCM.

Ive seen mines no problem before, Ive watched them deployed from enemy ships, they should up on the HUD with red titles. Plus I dont use ECM...though perhaps someone else in the area was. perhaps I saw them before when others were improving sensors or something.

But yeah, it kind of bites when you run into them and they never show up on sensors. It would at least be nice to provide them a mnimum siganture in order to see them pop on sensors at a minimal range, even if its so late that you cant avoid them...at least it would avoid this "death by magic bullet" feeling as you lay bewildered about what killed you.

At least this way, mines can remain a nasty surprise and the total composition of the mine field can still remain hidden until the enemy unfortunatly "lucks up" on other unseen mines right before they impact.

Or, maybe we can get a report that alerts us to the collision with a mine, so we can identify what the explosion and source of damage was.

when mines, bombs, fighters and missles first deployed theyre visible. after they get their original signature; all mines and some types of others become invisible unless you have eccm-scanners running or really close to them. in case of jumping its really hard to process them to show up since mines show up really close range.
