I have read through the whole history (and the old history and OCC thingy.)
The Info for fic writers was most helpful. I am looking for an answer though.
What are ships designated as in the factions?
For instance, a naval vessle from the US starts USN. I do believe a Brit vessel is HMS.
What are ICC and UGTO ships designated as, specifically?
Is ICC just ICCSV [name] ( sv for space vessel) or ICCNV-[name] (naval vessel) or should I use a different designation?

ICC is C.S.S (Confederat star ship)
UGTO is U.W.S (United Worlds ship

cool. I wasn't sure about UGTO's.
I'd like to know a couple other things.
What are fleet sizes and what are they designated? In naval terms I mean. Is 3 ships a fleet technically, or a contingent, or...?
Oh. Also. I read there was the Gagarin Naval Academy on a stat orbiting Earth. Does ICC have an equivelant?
If anyone knows.....

While lurking and reading some DS history, I was suprised to find out that UGTO originally developed shields, but scrapped/sold them. The ICC got the shields and then they expanded upon them.

IIRC there is written that shields were cheaper to maintain etc. but the UGTO stayed with armour since they would have had to refit all of their ships if they had decided to use shields
I might be wrong though, since I read this quite a while ago and atm lack the time to reread it :/

DarkSpace history does not state fleet sizes explicitly, so you can have your way. But please do not put too many big ships in a fleet.
Size of UGTO fleet which went on expedition to Sag Hottha -
1 EAD (flagship)
1 Cmd Dread
Some cruisers
Many destroyers
No frigates (too small to be useful)
Handful of scouts (for reconnaissance)
Few engineer ships
Few supply ships.
If you think, you would get about 20 as a reasonable answer. That is an expedition fleet, so a battlegroup would be bigger and have more cruisers, and only supplies as support vessels.
Fleets don't have any designation in fiction besides patrols (1-2 destroyers, 2-4 frigates, maybe a scout for recon) and fleets (few dreads, many cruisers, many destroyers, some supplies).
ICC does not have a space-based cadet training station.

Fighters might actually be useful vs ICC!!!
That and UGTO would have one powerful EAD...

It would be better at mid/longish ranges as a core weapons/torp platform. It would be too energy hungry for beam work though.

There seems to be no acurate definition of how many ships a Fleet, Armada, Squadron, Flotilla, Contingent, Group or Pack consists.
MilitaryDictonary.com:
FLOTTILA
a small group of warships or other vessels
SQUADRON
1. a small tactical grouping of warships
2. an air force unit consisting of two or more flights, i.e. between ten and eighteen aircraft
CONTINGENT
* a small military force which forms part of a larger grouping
Example The British contingent is made up of marines and reconnaissance units.
COMMENT Contingent is normally used to describe the different members of a multinational force, e.g.: the British contingent, the German contingent, etc.
FLEET
* a large number of warships
