Part 11: Sacrifice

Destroyers, cruisers and dreadnoughts fired their torpedoes, ruby red orbs roaring through space, searching for their target. "Focus all fire on that Hive!" yelled Groden. Not that it'll make any difference anyway, he thought. K'luth ships were known for their regenerative powers, with the fearsome dreadnought sized ship type referred to as "Ganglia" being the best at it.
Torpedoes, missiles and SABOT rockets roared towards the Hive. "Come on," whispered Groden, "just a few good hits." He hadn't expected the selflessness of the K'luth though. Scout and frigate sized vessels intercepted the faster missiles, while larger ships stopped the torpedo volleys. Even though several ships were destroyed, nothing had hit the Hive. An enormous "Siphon" type dreadnought that had taken a barrage of torpedoes to it's main hull continued it's course, and lunged at the ICC fleet at full speed.
"Target that Siphon," ordered Groden. The ship fired it's torpedo batteries at a Missile Dreadnought, cutting the ship apart with it's Disruptors before firing a new volley at a Combat Dreadnought. Several Assault Cruisers kept pounding the the massive ship, still at full speed, with Fusion Torpedoes. Soon it exploded, taking with it some destroyers that had come to aid, and bombarding the Combat Dreadnought with debris the size of asteroids.
Groden let out a heavy curse. Two dreadnoughts and some destroyers... he thought. One ship had taken out half a dozen of his...

Part 12: Victory

Do an emergency jump, the Queen ordered in the middle of battle. The acolytes looked at her, confused by the message. Do it! They complied, and in a flash of light, the Hive lunged forward a good distance before being affected by the planet's gravity well. Suddenly, the acolytes understood. The Queen had used this technique to get the ship within Disruptor range.
Antimatter torpedoes were fired, each volley taking out another cruiser. Disruptors tore up any ship unfortunate enough to be within range. The Predators and Chitins had already covered the distance, the Mantis class vessels closing in behind them.
The ICC fleet was all but defeated. A few Missile Dreadnoughts still fired, covered by a trio of Assault Cruisers. A lone Assault Dreadnought had it's last spasms, untill a Scarab launched it's torpedoes straight into the doomed dreadnought's engines, vaporizing the entire aft section of the ship. A few Predators closed in to tear up any possible remaining weaponry with disruptor fire.
Two Siphons moved towards the Missile Dreadnoughts, while Shell-, Claw- and Drainer-type Predators engaged the three Assault Cruisers. The Siphons, together bearing an armament nearing that of the Hive, destroyed the Missile Dreadnoughts, ignoring their heavy missile barrages on the way in.
As the last vessels exploded, all ships launched their landing pods, filled to the brim with the Empire's elite warriors. The ground battle could begin.

Part 13: Completion

Explosions boomed, laserguns tore through bodies. The ground battle was hectic. The humans had entrenched themselves firmly. The main battle raged on the plains near the capital, New Dallas. But the important mission went unnoticed. Slowly, the three-armed warrior motioned his team to move on.
As long as the defense bases and planetary shields were operational, the planet was virtually untouchable from space. But the human race had a weakness: the lack of psionic communications, having them rely on command centers and communication devices to coordinate. Taking out the command center would handicap them severely. Defense bases would be unable to target, infantry squads unable to communicate.
As the teamneared the building through the thick forest, they noticed the sentries. Three seconds later, all of them had a knife stuck in their throat. None of them could scream as they died. Wait here, the three-armed warrior ordered his team as he headed for the door. A knife in each hand, and the explosives at his waist, he was about to complete his mission.
Three hours later, the Clavate bombing Chitins finished theirs: wiping out the last traces of human presence on Exathra.

Part 14: Reinforcements

"Sir, we have received a transmission from High Command. Intelligence is decoding it as we speak." Fleet Admiral Maydon nodded from his command seat. Most likely a response to his request for reinforcements. "Very well, commander. I'll be in my ready-room. I want it delivered in person," he said as he left the bridge. "You have the conn, commander."
Two hours later, the senior staff of the Elite Assault Dreadnought "Superior" had gathered in the meeting room. "At ease," Maydon said as he entered. He took his seat at the head of the table. "Gentlemen," he spoke calmly, "our request for backup has been answered. However, High Command has given no specifics as to the size and content of this fleet, so I want you to look at the best way to use any possible additions." The senior staff, ranging from captains to vice admirals, nodded. "Dismissed," said Maydon.
Almost a day later, Maydon was told the reinforcements had entered the system and were headed for Ocotat, where the bulk of the fleet already resided. He looked at the main screen as several flashes announced the arrival of the fleet. He was surprised however, as he did not see any vessels. Anything larger than a Destroyer should have been visible. "Increase magnification," he ordered. The screen enlarged the image, and Maydon's jaw dropped to his chest. He stared at his reinforcements: 5 old transports.
