I really don't understand how to use/obtain screenshots, so could I have an explanation please?

you can download fraps for free, but it's limited to .bmp screenshots (and 30 seconds of video). and then you can just convert the screenshots to jpg/png with xnview (free) or any of a number of other programs

I always run in windowed mode and Alt+Print-Screen works for me just fine. (holding alt will make it so that it will only get the active window instead of the whole screen)
True gota paste it into something.

ALT+T creates a screenshot.

Xfire is free and simple to use for screenshots also. Just have it running while playing the game and you can then hit the key combo to take as many screenshots as you want. A window will open up displaying the ones you took after you close your game window giving you the option to save or delete them.
It even gives you the option to upload them to your xfire profile page after you take them which is like free web hosting. It gives you the links for posting the screenshots to other sites from the xfire one right on the page also.
