I'm a new player and I don't know if this is normal for everyone, but when I try to download an update via the client I get it starting @ 450kb/s and it quickly dies down below 80kb/s.
my regular download speed is 2-10mb/s from other servers, is there any other way to get these updates?

How odd. My usual speed is 90 Kb/s, and downloading darkspace I get around 120.
Maybe cuz I'm just that cool?

From what I've heard before when a similar question was asked in the lobby:
(don't kill me if i'm wrong)
You won't be able to download updates at much more then 100kb/s. This is because DS doesn't have a dedicated download server.
I believe that the reason it starts out telling you it's downloading at around 400kb/s is becuse not enough time has elapsed in the download for an accurate speed estimation to be determined.

We send encrypted and compressed updates, which some ISP's don't like. It has nothing to do with how large our 'phat pipe' is (and for the record, DS is hosted at a data center, where the files are downloaded from).
IF you have download speed issues, it's usually to do with your ISP, and not DarkSpace. They throttle way more than people realise.
