Today i was asked to stop playing and sit idle for a few mins because some people were lagging, at the time i wasnt lagging and seldom do.
I think its time minimiun computer requirements were brought to the game. Why should my play have to suffer because people are using crappy computers. Upgrade to better computer or go play Runescape.

This post appears to be a classic instance where "network latency" and "low framerate" have both been merged into the horrifying yet totally useless term "lag."

Network latency is caused by communications being delayed or lost between the game server and your computer.

Low frame rate is caused by your computer struggling to process everything, be it graphics, physics, whatever.

These two are not particularly related. Getting a better computer will not help increase your ping, and getting a 10,000Gb/sec connection will not help increase framerate.

Is it possible to experience both at the same time and call it lag?

2.1 Minimum System Requirements
DarkSpace requires the following minimum computer specifications to run normally:

o OS: Windows 2000/XP
o CPU: 700 mHz Intel/AMD
o Video: Second-Generation 3D Card (GeForce, Matrox G400, Graphics Blaster)
o Audio: Direct Sound compatible sound card required.
o Hard Drive: 150 MB
o RAM: 512 MB
o Internet Connection (56k modem or faster)
o Direct Input-compatible Mouse.
o DirectX 9.0c or higher

We recommend the following for best performance:

o OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
o CPU: 1 Ghz Intel/AMD
o Video: Third-Generation 3D Card (GeForce FX, Radeon 9x00, or equivalent)
o Audio: Direct Sound compatible sound card required.
o Hard Drive: 150 MB
o RAM: 1 GB
o Internet Connection (ISDN, Cable, ADSL)
o Direct Input-compatible Mouse.
o DirectX 9.0c or higher

I think this needs to be update

I'm having this recommended computer, and trust me it's just enough for minimum performance. When there are more than 10 players in the game, your frame rate slowly freezes lmao. The point is, the visual has been improved significantly after shader lives in game.

Back when HDR was applied, my computer ran slowly like turtle. Even I heard disable new feature in option solve the problem, but only until
Quote:
On January 9th, 2011, 1.546 released
- FSAA has been disabled because of problems with NVIDIA chipsets and HDR.
- Removed lights from effects to reduce graphical lag.

They did that with the server, the problem vanished. I doubt that the client not always used the old method when we disable the new features.

Regardless network latency, items listed below are the required to play the game smoothly, the higher the better
  • OS: Windows XP
  • CPU: Core i3/Athlon II (whatever GHz)
  • Video: Radeon HD 2000/NVidia XXX with at least 1 GB DDR3, support Shader 3
  • Audio: lol
  • RAM: 4 GB DDR3
  • Hard Drive: 250 MB free space to store the game and 1 GB virtual to play it.

That is pretty much a description of one of my machines, it plays DarkSpace just fine even in combat I get roughly 30FPS and I play at MAX graphics... It is a good minimum for best performance:

3.0Ghz Pentium 4 HT 630
2GB DDR2 RAM
1GB Radeon HD 5450
lots of HDD space
7.1 surround sound audio card

1GB Radeon HD 5450 is the key. I have graphics on-board. I guess good graphics card is the most essensial requirement to play game.

Btw, should I enable multi-core support with Pen 4 HT?

My old desktop got pretty unplayable in large fights at relatively low settings

1.8 GHz AMD 2500+
GeForce 6600 256mb
1 GB DDR2
Sound card older then some DS players

My laptop got steady performance on medium settings

1.8 GHz Intel Core Duo
Ge Force 7300 512md
1GB DDR2
