There are some missiles exploding within / nearby Your ship
if Your target vanish (typical example jump away / kluth cloak / cover by ecm
result is self inflicted damage

not sure if it's IT / AR or PCM missiles causing the dmg but it's quite lot especially if have only armor (disable shields)

any chance if someone can look into arming range vs self destruction (in case of target vanishing)

thanks

tis the cruiser missiles i think they leave a pretty large explosion. so the the planetary bombardment. Not paid to much attention to wether or not they hurt me tho.

I love this lol. Works good if you jump over the missle ship just right, it will reverse the missles right back through the enemy lol.

Good things, good things.

Working as intended? Great things, great things lol

yep. thats why missles are useless to fire at luth targets. they see em, cloak and watch the fireworks.

Observations and uncommon sense state the firing ship is immune to collision from its own missiles, cannons, fighter's cannons etc. So if you jump across the missile ship the missiles just go through him and on to you.

Necessary re-enlightenment

i don't think You realize the problem here is not damage from ARMED missiles which already passed theirs activation threshold ...

the problem is here with missiles which are just fired and explode directly inside your ship before traveling the treshold distance to activate ...

considering that there is instant destruction of missiles on target lock loss this is wrong imho ...

so the missles then just stop their engines? in space they would travel on until a force or object stopped them, thus risking hitting random things. I'm not sure if the missles have some grand computer which can make smart decisions, but for me its explode or go on and hit something.

no there should be some delay at least till the missile flies the trajectory needed to activate

or you find it's normal to receive self damage so often just because the missiles insta exploding ?

It is simple, currently the missiles in game do not have a ability to retarget themselves when the original target lock-on is lost (from whatever means be it ecm, cloak, jumping out of max flight range, etc...).

They simply self-destruct.

I agree though that they should at least travel the minimum arm distance before they SD. They could tavel that distance on the last known trajectory of the lost target.

The weapon that is doing the large splash damage is most likely either the PCM (Proton Cruise Missile) or PSM (Proton Siege Missle) since both have a area-effect warhead. The IT and AR have a smaller proximty/contact type warhead.

AR & IT have around half the total damage output, in the Area effect.
PCM & PSM has a little more of 2/3rd of ther total destructive force in Area effect. and have a larger blast radius. Plus they have more damage then the standard missiles.

While it is true what rocko says PCM are most likely to be the biggest change to get damage from them due to there large blast radius. It is possible if the target vanishes fast enough, for IT and AR do to blast damage on the launching vessel.

But i ask you. if you know the ship is inside a ECM field, or the target can or is cloacking.. why are you smashing that spacebar? there is no darn need to launch missiles at that point. unless you are a Missile dread/cruiser.

most of time you dont know if the vehicle is inside ECM field (in fact how would i know it, is there indicator telling me that? lol)
or if he is just warping away or cloaking or exploding ...

remember

1. lag (network distance, processing)
2. distance (usually if you are missile ship, you NOWHERE near unless you crazy)

so this form of punishment by damage from own missile projectiles is really bit too much

you get hit by what? 1 volley? 1/2 a volley? that won't hurt, its the metric tons that missle dreads spew out every 5 seconds that hurt.

it hurts,
please before commenting try e.g. disable shields and watch tens of % of your armor gets gone ...
