I have been playing for months now, I have never had a desync problem!
However, After the update the game has become unplayable for me because I desync horribly when I engage in battle. When I am just wandering it is fine!

I lowered all my graphics and reset my router! I play other MMOs and have no latency problems at all.

CPU
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 59 °C
Venice 90nm Technology
RAM
3.0GB Dual-Channel DDR @ 128MHz (2.5-3-3-6)
Graphics
LCD1770NX @ 1024x768
1024MB GeForce 9600 GT (PNY) 65 °C

Run setup, turn of "UDP" and try the game... re-post if things get better for you.

Bloom, nor HDR, has nary any effect on desync. Do not listen to this fiendish troll.

Maybe the team should post this out somewhere on the main page. So that the same topic does not have to be reposted again, or be argued in chat.

Anyway, feedback:

JBud suggested this the other day on chat. And it worked for me.
But for some of my fleetmates, the lag/desync or whatever it is got kinda bad again when the server filled up with more players, or when they were around clusters, it seems.

Next. I also noticed a bit of a strange thing. After disabling UDP, things seem wonderfully smooth for me... to the point where even the damage readings "slide" down nicely, instead of jumping from one figure to the next. I like that. But I noticed that everytime I alpha another ship, I see his damage (armor/shield) plunge from 100% to around 50%, then suddenly shoot back up to, say... 90%, then slowly decrease again.

It's nothing major, just something I noticed.

I Had UDP off and i got terrable LAG i would just be romeing around and have 37 MS latency and as soon as i enter a Battle it raises to 69K no joke
and then when i enabled UDP my Latency was 1k in battle and out was 18 MS so......idk whats wrong lol UDP is better for me

My case with UPD:
- With UPD, things keeps going on smoothly but not correctly for a while.
- Without UDP, everything is correct after a short pause.

Notes:

desync is not lag

desync = server and client are different games
(e.g. some packets didnt reach the client... usually damage taken by player and your client display more health, than it have on the server -> death with 20% hull)

latency (lag) = (high) time to communicate between server and client

tcp-protocol:
1 send package a to 2
2 confirm package a
1 send package b to 2
2 did not recieve package b and therefore dont confirm package b
1 did not recieve confirmation package b and therefore resend b
(->high transfer due to send + confirmation for each package)

udp:
1 send package a to 2
1 send package b to 2 -> package b get lost forever
1 send package c to 2
(-> faster but less reliable due missing confirmation-package)

~~~~~~~~~
conclusion:
using udp decrease your latency but ure at a higher risk to lose packages (especially on bad network-routes -> high packet-loss is mostly an ISP-problem)
not using udp, increase your latency but reducing the risk at loosing packages (and therefore desync -> high latency is usually an ISP-problem)
if your game hang for some time, its usually a problem with your hardware / bad programming (which one is difficult to say, since i dont know the source )
I have Tried all of this and, none of this works. It still laggs out for me.
I get Disconnected outright after it slows to a crawl or DS just stops running until Lagg dissapates, But by then I am blown up and People get latency/Lagg kills off of me. It only happens when I am arround UGTO Ships and UGTO cotrolled Systems. Against ICC ships and ICC controlled systems I do not have this Latency/Lagg issue.
For me it seemed to help to disable UDP, desyncs come less often but last a bit longer. If i enable UDP desyncs are more common but perhaps a bit shorter.
My desyncs are also very random, sometimes i get several in a row in just a 10-15 min timespan(each desync lasts around 1-2 min) then other times i can play without problems for like hours before i get any desync. I havent seen any connection between lots of players/action and the desyncs, just randomly happens wherever whenever.
When i desync the chat stops coming but if i type a message it does get to the server when i type it, not after the desync is over. Just to clarify, i dont see my message when i type it but when the desync is over and check the chat log i can see my messages spaced out through the log when i typed them.
So the desync problem for me at least seems to be that the info stops going from server to me while the info i send to the server gets there just fine.
Can someone else test this to see if this also applies to you?
Might help if we know if everyones desync has the same pattern, ie dont recieve info from server but can still send to server.
There is no desync anymore. What you're experiencing is lag.
Thanks a bunch Faustus! It actually corrected my problem!
Now I don't remember if I had UDP off back then, might the update have re-activated it?
