I try to change the music that is being played in darkspace.
I rewrote the config file in Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace
the line that says
music=.\Music\
been changed to
music=.\Music\Music2
then rewrote the config file in Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace\Music
to look like this
[jukebox]
ListCount=1
List0Name=Nirvana
List0FileCount=2
List0File0=.\Music\Nirvana1.mp3
List0File1=.\Music\Nirvana2.mp3
and placed it into Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace\Music\Music2 folder, where all the music is. I renamed 2 songs to NIrvana1 and 2.
still the original music is played from
Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace\Music
even though i check the config file from
Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace\
is unchanged, still shows that it should play music from Music2 folder like this
music=.\Music\Music2
the config file in Music2 folder is also unchanged, just the basic music folder keeps getting restored and used
How do i play my own music when playing darkspace...what do i type in config files and where do i place folders? Havent found another thread about this...
BTW the 2 slashes are actually 1, dont know why they are 2 now in this message...

There is no event named Nirvana, hence it won't play the music.
Your file should look like this: (without the double slashes):
[Jukebox]
ListCount=2
List0Name=AMBIENT
List0FileCount=2
List0File0=.\Music\Nirvana\Nirvana1.mp3
List0File1=.\Music\Nirvana\Nirvana2.mp3
List1Name=COMBAT
List1FileCount=2
List1File0=.\Music\Nirvana\Nirvana1.mp3
List1File1=.\Music\Nirvana\Nirvana2.mp3
Then set the file to read-only. [ This Message was edited by: BackSlash on 2010-08-31 10:19 ]

I have and as you have just noticed, the "music" folder setting inside the main config file isn't used at the moment.
About the config file inside \.Cache\DarkSpace\Music\
Every time you launch the game, all files are checked if they are correct, including the music config file.
It will re-download the origional config file and overwrite the changes you made.
Make the changes to the config.ini file inside \.Cache\DarkSpace\Music\ and set the file to "READ ONLY".
This will prohibit GCQL to overwrite the settings.
Its been to long since i messed with this, and everytime i say il will document it, i forget it.
Again, i will try to look at it and will make suggestions to the dev team, so we can make this work, how it was supposed to work.
E.

rewrote config.ini, made it read only, yet still it gets replaced with new version...

In which case it looks like the GCQL updater is aggressive in it's updating (which is a good thing for security).

grrreat! ill wait till there is a way to exclude the config.ini from the music folder, from the check on every file still same...
ill just do it easy way, turn music to 0% and my media player at 100%

You're doing it wrong. You need to create a config.ini for the music2 folder, not alter the existing one. There is no need to set any files to READONLY, you need only set it up correctly.
You must follow my instructions exactly here: http://www.darkspace.net/index.htm?module=forums.php&page=/viewtopic.php?topic=49121&forum=13&8
Here is my music2 folder as an example: http://www.jbud.org/Musicfolder.zip

i now got no music at all being played.
i followed ur guide, made new folder: \Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace\Nirvana
made new file: config.ini, in the nirvana folder
file shows this:
[Jukebox]
ListCount=2
List0Name=AMBIENT (also tried namit it NONCOMBAT but didnt work, same for the 2 songs below)
List0FileCount=2
List0File0=.\Nirvana\AMBIENT1.mp3
List0File1=.\Nirvana\AMBIENT2.mp3
List1Name=COMBAT
List1FileCount=2
List1File0=.\Nirvana\COMBAT1.mp3
List1File1=.\Nirvana\COMBAT2.mp3
put 4 songs in the directory, renamed them accordingly, they are mp3.
in darkspace setup ive altered the music folder to the nirvana music folder.
now i dont got any music...
renamed the nirvana folder to Music2 and rewrote the config ini accordingly, and set the music folder in darkspace setup to Music2. restarted the client. still no music. [ This Message was edited by: HakkeTak on 2010-08-31 17:17 ]

Did you point the DarkSpace config.ini file to look in that folder ?

COMBAT1.mp3

config.ini
the config.ini is written like this: (in the Music2 folder)
[Jukebox]
ListCount=2
List0Name=AMBIENT
List0FileCount=2
List0File0=.\Music2\AMBIENT1.mp3
List0File1=.\Music2\AMBIENT2.mp3
List1Name=COMBAT
List1FileCount=2
List1File0=.\Music2\COMBAT1.mp3
List1File1=.\Music2\COMBAT2.mp3
Ive tried copy pasting the original config.ini to \Music2 folder, from the original \Music folder and then edit it, as well.
also tried copy and paste Music2 folder to \Darkspace folder, not in cache
So, following Jbud's walktrough was nice and all..but didnt result in sound. allthough i didnt test if it comes after a while...just quicklogged a bit to see if any sound came up. Does it work, just music comes after 5 minutes?

Try launching Darkspace Setup, go to the Audio tab and click the button where it says "Music Directory". Then point it to your "music2" folder, or wherever it is you've got your .mp3s and the config file for them.
Note that the filenames of the .mp3s don't need to be the same as the originals (i.e. Ambient01, Combat02, etc.), they just need to match the names that the config file is looking for. In fact, in this case it's probably BETTER if they don't match the originals, because the game might keep overwriting them to restore "changes" to the original files.
So rename them to Nirvana1 and 2, change the config file in "music2" accordingly, and then use Darkspace Setup to make the game use those files instead of the default ones.
If it still doesn't work, try also copy-pasting the Nirvana files (but not the config file) to your /.cache/Darkspace/music folder. I'm pretty sure Setup does this automatically when you select a new folder to use music from, but it can't hurt.

| That wont happen... My music2 folder plays them just fine.. Aside from using funky MP3 files, I have no idea what could cause this problem... I have a suggestion, try copying my music2 folder and setting your client to play it, just as a test. If it works, then the problem is likely with the format of MP3 you are using. here is the link again http://www.jbud.org/Musicfolder.zip

ok tried it
config in \Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace folder now shows:
music=C:\Program Files\Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace\Nirvana\
after setting it accordingly in darkspace setup. (and of course renaming the folder itself before setting it in darkspace setup)
rewrote config/ini from music2 folder (now Nirvana folder) to:
[Jukebox]
ListCount=2
List0Name=AMBIENT
List0FileCount=2
List0File0=.\Nirvana\Nirvana1.mp3
List0File1=.\Nirvana\Nirvana2.mp3
List1Name=COMBAT
List1FileCount=2
List1File0=.\Nirvana\Nirvana3.mp3
List1File1=.\Nirvana\Nirvana4.mp3
renamed music files accordingly.
So, in short, i made a music folder named Nirvana in Darkspace\.Cache\DarkSpace folder. Set up darkspace setup to use this folder, and made a config.ini as shown above.
...and it totally works now!!! awesome!
ty for all ur help peeps
Edit: think the problem was indeed the same names for different files that confused server:) different name, and do the rest perfectly, and ur good:) [ This Message was edited by: HakkeTak on 2010-08-31 17:59 ]
