Srry didn't realize the MV was rank restricted as the messages I read on connecting dont reflect that. Could you please point me towards those messages that state which areas are restricted and which is not?

You're probably trying to spawn in the Little Dipper server or Rogan's Rift, the ones that arn't restricted are the Sag server (giant pentagon) and your home system.

A map of the current metaverse can be found here.
The "top" part of the map (Ursa Minor), with systems Alasco, Wolf 359, Ross 148, Van Maanen, etc. is rank-restricted. Choose a shipyard from any other system, then it won't be rank-restricted. In the ship selection screen, zoom out or move the map around and you should be able to see friendly shipyards for your faction.
The metaverse cluster that most action is at currently is right in the middle (R33, Cincinnati, Luyten, Tau Ceti, Epsilon Eri). You're most likely to find players there.
Note that a certain amount of resources on a planet is required to spawn or build higher-class ships. Make sure you choose your spawn point and ship wisely, because you don't want to waste your faction's resources! If in doubt, ask using the in-game chat or in the lobby area.

Thx for all your help. I'll check out those unrestricted systems when back from work. Someone said "Home system" is not restricted but I spawn out of the ICC gate somewhere in Obrian in MV7. I would have thought then that you could spawn at planet (uun / kari, I think) with ship yard with enough resources and a ship yard but rank Admiral remains red.
But if your above replies still apply, then fair enough.
