Ive read through the other posts and what not but I can't seem to fix my issues:
Computer Spec:
Cable Connec.
AMD Quad 9850
4gb ram
Geforce 8800gt
Vista Home x64
I pretty much have all of vista's security off. I installed the game outside the program files directory, tried all the compatibility stuff and runnign as admin. But none of the problems were corrected:
Chat messages sent in game have taken upwards of 10 mins to actually show up for people.
Every so often(read-"a lot") Everything in the game will just stop moving. I can still type and do everything like give turn commands and the arc will show up and hat not, but just no objects are moving. This lasts for varying amounts of time.
When using a bomber, i can empty my ship of bombs before even seeing the first set actually launch. and there can be upwards of 2 mins between each volley. But while this is happening, My PD is working fine, and I can fire other weapons and they work fine.
Ships will occasionally "skate" through space. (The seem to move around randomly for no reason. as in I jump on top of somebody and they "slide" 700 gu away.
I also just get general lag. (takes a long time to enter ship selection after clickign a shipyard and what not).
All of this is happening to me, and when my chat messages do finally get through, anyone else whom is on says that they are running fine.
Any suggestions?

I'd just like to fill in since we had another post about this that I am having the exact same issue, check out the post "Lag, with screenshots!". But posting here as well since I never stated any specs about the system.
But I to have a AMD, dual core however. As well as having Vista x64 bit. I wonder if it is actually Vista's new drivers causing things. I can't be really sure how those things work though. Alot of people who seem to be having the massive lag have vista.
Using a Geforce 7800GT, but I doubt that is anything to do with it [ This Message was edited by: NiteHawk on 2008-10-23 01:49 ]

I get exactly the same
Quad core 2.4ghz each
Vista home premium
Geforce 8400 gs.
worked fine on 483. (appart from the usal issues of course) now it's a nightmare.
Most recent issue - just me in sol. took maybe 2 mins from selecting a ship to it appearing.
when modding it must have been 2 mins from seleting the part to getting a message from engineering saying fitted. then maybe another 20 secs before seeing the part on the ship.
pity i just subed for 6m - haven;t been able to move a ship for last 2-3 weeks

Hi there guys,
I was playing darkspace about a year ago, and I decided to return.
Now what I see is annoying me. I know a lot about computers, about net connections to the servers, about my isp etc. etc..
Normally I don't have any rpoblems connecting DS webpage, DS servers (but not through client) everything is ok with maximal response up to 200 ms. In lobby i have server respons in around 100ms. My bandwidth is 10 Mb/s. I don't have such a problems in any other game. I play BF 2 on American or Chineese servers with a ping around 30ms. But when I start DS client...
Alt+P and i see 75000ms or better. Sometimes 15k less, more. Sometimes its even 300. I see my own posts on chats after 1-2 mins. What's more I think I got this problem discovered a little bit - This ultimately high ping happens on the beginning. After about 30 mins of being logged it in most cases dissappears. But still the issue is on the server side. Not the client (5 times reinstalled, different configurations of system, security, router changing different ISP). The question is why a lot of people have low ping to the servers in lobby but then it hits the celling when they enter the game. It's definetly server problem.
ONE MORE VERY IMPORTANT!!!
Where is /bps 32768 command? It did work before and it should work now!

Questions:
1. Do you have a firewall running, or any other type of anti-virus application?
2. Have you open ports up on your router yet?
Possible solutions:
1. Try turning these off just for a little bit and then log into the game and see if the lag still present.
2. Here is a link to the FAQ for what ports you need to open.
FAQ Ports
Also here is a link on how to log into most routers to setup port forwarding.
Port Forwarding
I hope this helps,

The /bps command has been removed, I no longer try to regulate bandwidth to the client... the new network code didn't need it.
It certainly is a mystery to me why you guys are seeing such massive lag, especially since the network code is REALLY optimized now... we send very little data out to the clients now and days.

Think it's to do with the virtulization of the data in Vista.

Same since my xp died. new computer Vista. ugh
All works till I join MV.
Select Faction... long pause
Select spawn point, select ship, select launch... upwards of 60+ seconds for it to spawn.
No ship movement controll. Can fire weapons at objects (verified since the trany sent a distress call as I attacked it). Can recieve others Chat, all chat. My chat is delayed about 30+ seconds.
Out of 10 tries, only 1 time did it mostly work. Just had constant times all game activity stoped for about 10 seconds, PC was runing fine.
Only change is new pc from before working fine with xp. Disabled antivirus, firewalls, turn on port forwarding, all the fun stuff.
I heard something about DX9, can not remember what.

Do you have a quad core CPU?
I've heard of issues with timing before with multi-core CPU's... so that could be the actual problem.

I suffer from this problem terribly; something to do with the application grabbing its timing signals in such a way that it ends up getting timing signals from a random core each time, which are ever-so-slightly out of sync and as a result you get strange stutter problems. I can't say my Athlon 64 X2 dual core 6000+ has given me any obvious problems with DS in spite of it having trouble with other games.
One way to test this is to run DS, hit CTRL+ALT+Delete, hunt down DarkSpace.exe in the processes tab of task manager, right-click on it, select "Set affinity", uncheck all the boxes bar one (I usually pick CPU 0; you may want to experiment if you start suffering from slowdown), and bring DS back up and see if anything's changed.

So I found this article concerning vista's network tuning ....
http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/microsoft/remote-desktop-slow-problem-solved.asp
If your daring, try running this on a command line and let me know if this fixes your network lag issues:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
-F
