But use fancy programs like photoshop. and the work might look better.

A very effect way is to take a picture of your favorite ship(s), and then add some text.
Maybe some effects, too.

Remember...just because you have photoshop, does not mean you know how to use it. MOST people who have photoshop at home dont know how to use it no matter what they may think. Its expensive. People who DO know how to use it have it at work and home, cause that's what they do. Its a pretty deep program and without actual lessons from an institute 80% of its secrets will never be uncoverd by you alone.
On another note. There are better programs than photoshop to use...and easier.
Corel painter pro X: very complicated but much better than photoshop if you want to render your own image.
Alias sketch book pro: very nice drawing capability but also very easy to use.
**********************************************************
Here is an example of alias and photoshop side by side on dual monitors:
The image in photoshop was sketched in Alias, wich has much cleaner, crisper and smoother sketch qualities...then the color and hue balance was done in photoshop. The image you see in Alias was done (and in progress) in Alias.
photoshop is great for EDITING an existing image and very nice renderings can be made with it but it is more complicated and better used by those who cant draw very well and need to use splines, vectors grids, and pull & drag shapes with layers to create their image. Corel painter is for the PAINTER in you, the brushes actually "bleed" into the screen like watercolors or oils do with real paper. Painter pro is a fantastic program and needs a VERY fast computer to work well. Alias sketchbook is a good program for the doodler and sketch artist in you. It can work on a slower machine and is great with a wacom cintiq or intuos pad.
For you non-artists here...stick with cool images you find on the internet and just pop some text in place.
look at this video, they even show you how to size you image so Twister here doesnt get pissed and remove your signature:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1832860849213893242&q=photoshop+signature+tutorial&total=330&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0
Shown below are some images i have done in all 3 programs so you can see the what i mean.
100% Alias sketchbook:
100% Photoshop CS3:
100% Corel painter Pro X:
For example, my Signature you see below was done around 80% in corel painter and 20% Photoshop.

Well...I think im pretty good at it also, and im sure your "capable". But I know people with master degrees in graphic design who have had over 30 classes, each 10 weeks long, and many sit in conventions over the subject and use of photoshop. They are crazy good. I mean, really crazy good. Crap ive never even heard of. Things like Light studio 360 and other photoshop add ons you cant even buy but have to work for a place like ILM where they create their own add ons and such.
And Coeus...you said "Everything I need to know about Photoshop I learned 8 years ago "....that means nothing now. All it does mean it that you need to re-take those classes and learn all the new crap that photoshop has to offer because with every new version that comes out, it makes the previous one look like crap in a professionals eyes

SA... you really need to take your head outa your lobster butt & smell the roses... it was sarcasm & humor fool... rofl.
Idjiot... [Edit] Came out less humorous than I intended. Point being I don't really care about what it can do now... all I ever needed or foresee myself needing is the bare minimum of its capabilities.
