Hey Folks, before I begin posting it's probably pertinent to mention that I am not a registered user of Dark Space, yet... I was informed about this 30 day test which has been prolonged for a few weeks and have had a very enjoyable 3 weeks or so playing this game. In this time I've managed to get to Captain, and close to a new promotion: so what we have established is that the game was functioning quite well beforehand. And I did intend on registering once my free time ran out...

And then suddenly, out of the blue after the patch before this one (quite possibly co-incidentally) DarkSpace stopped functioning as it did.

=========

SYMPTOMS:

Now upon entering the game within 30-60 seconds after the game has loaded, sometimes as soon as 10 seconds, suddenly the game starts acting erratically, "pausing", the sound sounds like a broken record and everything feels like it's lagged. After a minute after these sympton start I get a "You have been disconnected from the server: {quit, reconnect} message" Neither options really work, clicking quit is supposed to take me back to the lobby, but it seems reconnection is not an option at this time.

Additionally, Task manager shows that even after the process tree has ended the CPU continues to "spike" every three seconds, causing everything else on the PC to "pause" much like the pausing which happens in game, with the same regularity, the same effect and the same duration. No processes are running at this time, even ending explorer and other processes does not stop this "3 second spiking" short of a reboot. A log out, log in does not fix it.

This is very wierd.

Now, I did have a problem with IRQ_MORE_OR_LESS and I searched the threads below for solutions, but found nothing which helped.

======

MY HARDWARE.

Pentium IV 2.6GHz (recently replaced)
400 watt power supply (recently replaced)
Nvidia GeForce 4 TI4600 (seemingly stable)
512 DDR Ram (recently replaced)
ASUS Ps468 motherboard. (seemingly stable)

=====

STEPS I'VE TAKEN.

This is in order.

Updated videocard to latest Forceware (It used to be on Dets haha)
Defragged HDD.
Scanned HDD.
Checked IRQ for conflicts.
Reinstalled DS.
Replaced CPU, RAM, Power Supply. (power supply was not enough.)

*I'm here now all that seems to be left is the dreaded Reinstall System.*

=====

So, who can help me?

Thanks in advance,
-Mat.

Hi m8 i'm getting the very same thing and after trying the remedies put forward i'm still getting the same thing.

After looking around this the only info i could find on the issue.

SYMPTOMS
You may receive the following error message on a blue screen:

STOP 0x000000D1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x0,0x0,0x0,0x0)
Parameters
1 - memory that is referenced
2 - IRQL
3 - value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
4 - address that referenced memory

CAUSE
This issue can occur when the Driver Verifier feature is enabled and a driver has used an improper address. Note that the driver that is causing this issue may be listed in the error message.

This problem only arose after the recent patch,up until then i'd had no problems what so ever on DS or any other game so to be honest i don't know what to do.

DS is the only game i'm having this problem with very weird

You don't by chance have that 'movie' thing enabled do you? Ctrl-M? (I think it's ctrl-m) I've mistakenly hit ctrl-M when frantically hitting my keys in the middle of the action. What it does is take lots of screenshots, one every second or so, and for me it lags the game up exactly as you described.

That's probably not what's causing your problem though. In fact I almost guarantee it isn't. But you never know. Check your Darkspace folder and see if there's lot of screenshots; then you'll know.

Try this ,just might work!
when you go into the lobby,go to setup(do this before you go into any server ) every time !. You are going to manually configure it.
1) Video tab= hit the dropdown bar ,and set it to HIGHEST.
2) Audio tab = leave it ,or set the sliders how you want
3) Options tab= set the drop down to your connection speed.
the big thing here is after you set them ,recheck them before you play again,to see if they reset themselves.

Also do a (Start, run ,msconfig)and in the startup tab uncheck everything, and reboot(you might have some service thats updating or running in the background, slowing you down)

also the best drivers for your card are (after much debate) 44.03
try them if your not using them already
http://download.guru3d.com/detonator/
scroll down and find them.

worth a try,hope it helps

My Suggestions:

1.) Download latest DirectX [9.0b i think] and install it.

2.) REINSTALL DS, this will fix most of your problems

If these don't work, please come back and tell me, I will do my best to help you out.

Good Luck!

step 1: update drivers
step 2: update Directx
step 3: uninstall DS
step 4: re-download DS
step 5: install DS with the new file

usually works for everything, as much as 2/3 of all system crashes are made by faulty drivers!

the GF4 Ti4600 is a realy stable card, but unfortunatly nVidia's drivers can be crap. Try running the 53.03 Win Xp driver.

I had some problems with DS and a few other games acting up with other drivers, but this one seems to work ok so far.

Thanks for all your help guys. I've come to the conclusion that the error is possibly caused by my sound card. (Even though it's a sound blaster audigy)

Like Kahkarot, I think I'll find the error soon enough.

I might do that reinstall regardless.

i have the exact same problem, game will run fine for a lil while, then will start 'pausing' for 5-10 seconds at a time, unpausing for 5 seconds, then repausing, etc. etc.

ive reinstalled, updated drivers,, etc. etc. etc.

only thing i havent done is a system wipe, but i guess ill try that , unless someone can offer up a possible solution..

computer specs are as follows

p4 2.26
asus p4b533 mb
1gig ddr
120 gig hd
geforce 5900
soundblaster live 5.1 plat
netgear nic
directx 9.0b
on a cable internet connection, through a router.,

if i kill the game, the problem persists intop windows, requiring a full reboot of my system.

of note is the fact that this is the only game that this happens too, and since i have a liquid cooling system which keeps my cpu and mb temp below 90f i dont think overheating is the problem,,

any ideas would be great
