Just finished taking a look at that a still nothing. Is there anyway I could modify the textures on a local level that are causing the problem? or would that cause more issues?
I'm not that great with computers as you can see I'm just throwing ideas out there.
EDIT:I poked around in the directX diagnostic help section and found where to dowload DirectX 9 on the microsoft site but it didn't do anything and then told me that it didn't install properly after download then gave me a prompt to use recommended settings. I clicked that then it gave an error message and told me to look at the DirectX log (similar to the client log) and it said this:
07/14/12 14:43:22: dxupdate: DirectXUpdateGetSetupInformation(): DirectX Version: 4.09.00.0904.0

Am I missing a plug-in or something? Any idea where to get it?
EDIT2: Heres the error log from the DxError log file:
[10/01/12 11:31:39] module: DXWSetup(Mar 30 2011), file: dxwsetup.cpp, line: 229, function: CDXWSetup::InitInstallEngine
Sections are not initialized.

CDXWSetup::InitInstallEngine() failed.
Edit3: I don't know if it matters anymore since I'm still connecting, but I do have a static IP address.

Give this a go: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=8109
It's the full redistribution package, and should have everything you need.

It's also good to note that there is an install file within those "bunch" of files, just look for it.
EDIT: In Pantheon's package, look for "DXSETUP.exe," that's what you need to run. [ This Message was edited by: Ryiah Toxic on 2012-10-01 15:27 ]

Yeah I know that, the guy had just gave me the End user licence agreements not the actual program.
So I downloaded and installed what you linked to, but it didn't change anything.
As a side note I've come to the conclusion that "Can you run it" is a load of bull.
It says I won't be able to run Mass Effect 3 but I can run it just fine. [ This Message was edited by: Space Pope on 2012-10-01 15:38 ]

The Unreal 3 engine has a lot of scalability, so it doesn't surprise me. I still find it very peculiar you can't run DarkSpace. I can't think of anything that would stop you.
Out of interest, is the Trace.log file (same directory as the Client.log) filled with anything?

I can't find a Trace.log file anywhere or anything close to that file name.
Edit: Just for something to try while waiting on a response I'm installing the beta just in case it installs a file or something that I'm missing for whatever reason that's causing the error. I'll edit into this post whether is works or not.
Edit2: Yeah that didn't work.
Edit3: I found some text file in the GameCQ folder before going into the .Cache folder called GCQL and it had this in it:
09/30/12 13:13:52 | ERRO | Socket | Error on receiving data, closing socket.
09/30/12 17:43:53 | ERRO | Socket | Error on receiving data, closing socket.

Clearly DS setup should install to folder whose name is DarkSpace, not GameCQ.
I myself also had difficulty to trace the installation folder the first time I look up where I installed DS 'cause when during setup, I just blindly clicked next.
Until now I still can't guess why DS folder's name is GameCQ (of course I know this is GameCQ forums but no hint for that name).

games developed by {Insert company name, ex - Activision} are by tradition installed into the {Activision} folder. the games get a sub-folder within {activision}, ex- {spiderman}, so that they dont mess up with other game's files.
just like that, games by PaleStar (ex- DS and DSBeta) are installed in a folder whose name is not DarkSpace. it may be GameCQ because GCQL is the trademark software associated with every PaleStar game (that is, DS and DS Beta).
so, DS games are installed in the GameCQ folder, and they get their own subfolder within it, by tradition
@spacepope there are different .log files for both DarkSpace and DarkSpaceBeta, because you use different game clients for running the two different versions of DS. thus, the .log files generated are maintained separately. check your GameCQ~.cache~DarkSpace~client.log or trace.log, whichever is needed.
and, if in future, your DS Beta doesnt work, check your GameCQ~.cache~DarkSpaceBeta folder for the required logs.
oh, and screenshots (Alt+T) taken in different game clients are stored in their game's subfolders.

its fairly straight forward actually.
gamecq is the launcher for darkspace & beta. in terms of a hierarchy, darkspace is a child of gamecq
couple other examples, Hi-Rez's global agenda & tribes ascend, some older NCSoft titles like tabula rasa and exteel. if you have any blizzard games, they're typically installed as child folders of /Blizzard, and of course there's Steam, where everything is under /Steam/Steamapps

Basically the only .log files that I have in the GameCQ folder (And by extension the .cache and darkspace folders) are these:
Client.log under GameCQ/.Cache/darkspace
LocalServer.log under GameCQ/.Cache/darkspace
SmartUpdate.log under GameCQ folder
Client.log under GameCQ/.Cache/darkspacebeta
GCQL.log under GameCQ folder
GCQL.log under GameCQ/.Cache/Darkspace/shaders
^This one is empty
I found these using the search function.
I also tried just clicking on the darkspace application file in the GameCQ folder and it said I'm missing a file called MFC71.dll does that have anything to do with it?

That executable is a remnant of a time when DarkSpace and GameCQ weren't seperate entities as such, it's not used at all.

Okay, well would any info from any of those .log files be of use to you? Or am I well and truly screwed?

No, the Client and Trace logs are the most important. Is the client offering to upload a crash log when it starts up? If it does freeze, see if it generates one. The client will offer to send it to us if it does generate one when you attempt to launch the game again.
