Speaking *as* a Dev... I've still got a ton of ideas for the game. Ways to improve planets, the overal in-game economy, ways to bring players together and centralize the action...
...but none of it I can do myself.
I'm not a trained programmer by any stretch. I've only picked up bits and pieces of it here and there. I can come up with ideas all day long, but most of them are beyond my ability to actually put into the game. Of the folks theoretically still on the Dev Team, we only have a couple real programmers, and they've both been too busy with their day jobs to work on DS for a long time now.
I feel like the game still has a lot of unrealized potential, but we just don't have the right tools and manpower to bring it out... and in the meantime, people just stopped playing. After a certain point, the playerbase fell below a critical threshold and there was never anyone on to fight, so no-one stuck around.
I myself haven't played in months, because everytime I look at the game none of the people I enjoy playing it with are online, and all I see are ways we could improve it that I can't make happen alone.

i'm playing Elite: Dangerous now. leading a group named Reign of Annihilation. I'm considering coming back and playing this game. I played it a lot as a pre-teen. It was so simple and fun. Many good memories made. I'm thinking about bringing some friends with me to come play this again.

I'd still be playing but since I moved all I can get is snapty satellite internet that's barely tolerable for watching videos, much less gaming.
Edit: Forgot to mention I can barely stay logged into the forums sometimes without getting "session terminated, accessed from different location." Screw you, hughesnet. [ This Message was edited by: Talien on 2015-12-06 09:52 ]

I just wish they would rollback...
I miss the old versions of DS. They were honestly better than this current one.
I cant get some badges to save my life... (staring at you, supply...)
I am trying to find something to attempt to replace this game currently, because I love this style of play, but I just cant find anything decent.

Hello, it´s been a while, i am suprised that this game is now realy deserted. Maybe a Rollback would help if it is not too late.
Personaly i stopped playing because step by step the game became less fun to me, to mention the most important things:
They changed my favourite ship the Assault Dreadnought, it was an answer to Kluth and had its role. Many new ships where invented but ironicaly it did not add up to strategic variation, instead it felt like everything was simplified, equalized and the battles were all stalemate.
Missiles got an arc that avoid friendly fire, ECCM doesnt "ping" anymore, the anti submarine warfare is gone. UGTOs special trademark the superarmor was nerfed and the legendary UGTO players left after being bullied by Kluth. And the latest change i recall: Maxing out on one augmentation type was limited.
One apears on the Radar whenever you enter a system, less tactical aproaching, just click on the system and there you see where they are,
all things that add to the simplification and equalization.
Probably the biggest issue: The Metaverse Map, Kaus Borealis is just a brawl center, you have to bypass it to do an invasion, the planets there have even less strategical value then they have anyway.
Maybe one solution: Shut down the Metaverse so people are forced to play Scenario, if the numbers of players rise again, reopen the Metaverse.
On the other hand: When i started to play, there were all the veterans that already said "everything was better back then", so maybe its just all in our heads, regarding changes.
Is it even possible to do a Rollback to an earlier version?
Anyways no matter what, pls dont shut down this game, it is great! even in its current state.
Greetings to the whole DarkSpace community and have a happy christmas time!
Edit: I realized there is a map rotation, sry for ranting before even going ingame.
What happened to the background? DarkSpace isnt dark anymore

Same here. Been on Elite:D for a few weeks now.
The thing is, no one seems to like the changes made to the game after 1.6x.
Maybe perfect imbalance was right. Factions do need imbalances in some ways to make the game fun or challenging to play. UGTO with their ridiculous armor, Kluth with their sneaky permanent cloak, and ICC with their...... QQ....
Until such time, I'll check in from time to time....

And yet people still say the game is imbalanced.
Personally, I feel like we fell below a critical threshold of active players, to the point that people would log on, be unable to find any immediate action, and log off again -- ensuring that when the next guy logged on, there wasn't any action then, either.
I had a whole bunch of ideas to help drive action in the game, but I wasn't able to implement them all by myself, and development just kind of... fizzled.

Perhaps an investment in actual professional gaming industry developers and game designers would actually shift the game in new directions. I usually look at the forms annually, yet thereis nothing interesting. I have moved eve online, as the game has such an intricateand diverse universe. I have downloaded darkspace two times since leaving the game and sadly, i play for 2 minutes before I uninstall the program. It is somewhat difficult to see thisgame dying but it can not be helped.
