So I recently made the switch from Win 7 to Ubuntu, because screw microsoft with their privacy invasion policies. But with my motives aside, I've gotten an itch to play this game recently.
I was wondering, is it even possible to run DS on Linux? Through Wine, perhaps?

Whilst the lobby only really requires Microsoft Foundation Class Library which Wine does a pretty decent job of emulating, the game itself requires DirectX 9.0c to work. No-one has ever gotten it to work under Wine before, and I don't except they ever will (Wine's DirectX emulation is basic at best).
We don't have the time to re-write the entire rendering engine over to OpenGL, which would be a massive undertaking for such a small benefit.
I'd highly recommend dual booting using Grub2 (for Linux) or Bootcamp (for Mac).

What is it your using linux for, most Linux operations can be run from inside a virtual machine, that you could have installed on a windows partition.
That way you could have the best of both.

I've already ported quite a bit of the engine to Linux.. I haven't ported the graphics/audio parts however, which I have been considering doing sometime in the near future.

I installed a VPN called Hotspot shield. It scrambles your IP adress like VPN do, but this one has an ad version for the penny pinchers. Also disable IPv6 through the Regedit because I found out it has some massive privacy issues. Go to https://www.hide.me/en/check to see what I'm talking about.
