Those AI allies that you can spawn for yourself are pretty terrible.
The type of ally you get is entirely random.
They tend to be very sluggish in their reaction time.
They ram planets and die very easily in general.
Once summoned, they cannot be UN-summoned except through docking.

With 1.7 coming up, the future of Darkspace is on the horizon, support classes are especially going to be in high demand if you wish to survive or have a tactical edge in combat.

I offer you my services and terms:
Scout - 1.0cr/m or 60cr/h (AI cost 50)
Frigate - 1.5cr/m or 90cr/h (AI cost 100)
Transport - 1.5cr/m or 90cr/h (AI cost N/A)
Engineer - 1.5cr/m or 90cr/h (AI cost N/A)
Supply - 3.0cr/m or 180cr/h (AI cost 300)
Destroyer - 4.0cr/m or 240cr/h (AI cost 200)
Cruiser - 7.0cr/m or 420cr/h (AI cost 400)
Dread - 14.0cr/m or 840cr/h (AI cost 800)
Station - 26.0cr/m or 1560cr/h (AI cost N/A)
Prices are prone to change as skill is improved, or demand increases or decreases.
Currently my rank is limited to Midshipman, soon to change, so choices are limited for the time being.

When under your command, you will receive TOP priority for all orders given.
Only orders which break the ToS, or bring highly unnecessary prestige damage on myself will be declined (for example, telling me to self destruct repeatedly while in a station, or orders to intentionally planet dive in destroyers or higher, or orders to aid in a game exploit)

To begin, invite me to your group, state your demands, and upon me reaching you or carrying out your orders, a timer and a log will be started in your name which will be used in calculating the correct fees.

To end at any time, simply uninvite me from your group.
The timer will be stopped immediately, rounded down to the nearest minute, and the costs for the session will be calculated based on what ships were flown for the duration, which will be kept track of in a log (You may view this time stamp log if you desire)

Please note that after dying, or being ordered to change ships, or some unforeseen circumstance prevents me from playing, the timer will be paused until I can return to your side again.
The timer will not be stopped when given orders to act remotely to your command, such as gathering troops for landings, bombing enemy planets, or scouting for the enemy at your request.
Also note that if you log out, lose connection, or go AFK, the timer will be stopped once your last command has been completed.

This is something that must go by the honor system... I trust you to pay in accordance to the aforementioned fees, and I promise to track time as fairly as possible, and I will do my very best to follow all orders which aren't retardedly unreasonable.

If you feel that you have been cheated, please share.
If you feel that the experience was overall a good one, please share.
My future depends on my performance and client satisfaction.
Please feel free to reply with any requests, questions, or concerns.

You mean... I can't be an intergalactic space whore?

In all seriousness, does it not seem reasonable to be temporarily hired by a player?
Where many may be self-serving, in this case, since I would be getting paid, I would make every effort to ensure the survival of the client.
If it's not for credits, then there's nothing to be earned, as prestige is hard to acquire by doing useful non-combat roles.

Just throwing it out there in 1.7 the ai last one hour, so they lose credits on your deal, plus you gain pres by doing this, and credits, I do wish you have some sucess, but I wouldn't expect much.

And station allies used to cost 1600 I believe.

considering how ai are "ai" and the minion is a player, i would pick the minion before the ai whenever possible for the better tactics and handling.

also worth note, the minion is likely to gain little or even lose prestige as they try to stay with the client till death. not to forget, ally ai are limited to 4 and you need to reach a shipyard to restock them. the minion can stay with you for as short or as long a time period as possible.

liking the idea, as there are plenty of people who want extra spaceships on their side (which may not necessarily be their faction's side).

one thing though...
if youre a midshipman, how would you fly a station? or even a cruiser for the near future?
edit: also, what are the times when you would normally be online? knowing this would help others track you down and hire your services more conveniently

Technically being a mercenary was a time honored tradition way back when in darkspace. if I recall right there were entire fleets devoted to the principles (forgive the pun) of mercenary work. It just isn't really done that often anymore since there are not enough people. I used to be a mercenary on my original guy.

This is actually not a bad idea, infact I may just do this myself after 1.7 hits. Maybe it'll give me some incentive to play more.

Yeah, rank is a big limitation right now, but the ships I'll have to choose from will be far more broad and useful in 1.7

I suppose you could think of this as an experiment to see if the idea is even doable, if there is a demand, and if it's even possible to develop if I'm taking every measure possible to prevent the client from dying, even if it means jumping in front of a siphon on his tail.

As far as times go, usually between 1pm-3am (-7:00) mountain time.

It should be mentioned that if your AI ally dies, it's gone, even if it had 55 minutes left on it. I wont do that, I will pause the timer until I am in a useful state again.
If I'm in something that costs resources, and you think the death was unavoidable or proved useful, a tip of whatever value you feel appropriate is welcome, but otherwise I wont be posting prices for that because it's just too variable and dependant on my skill or lack thereof.
I know my pricing is a tad bit higher than the AI equivalent, but it should be reasonable considering the benefits of having a live pilot, even if they're not particularly good, still better than the AI.

i had idea of posting a mercenary note.
giving out my services to other factions, like bombing help, and stuff. but then again we have ai that comes into play without anyone calling it and ruin the deal.

Yeah that would be the downside, you'd have to be fleetless so you can play all 3 factions. But at least that's easier now with separate garage slots for each.

I used to do that in Freelancer, players flying transports were always at risk of being pirated, so they'd hire me and I'd get a cut of the profits.

And yes, a more broad method of having an entire mercenary fleet is possible.
Imagine having something like a weekly or bi-weekly pay period, perhaps with the wages being based on activity and performance. It would be a bit harder to keep track of, though.

They were more contracted for the time of specific tasks. IE: 1million credits for the capture of a system. 500k for fortification, etc. NOTE: This was back in teh days when credits were easy to come by and were used for refitting ships and the like. way back when.

will you really do non stop tranny runs for 10 hours?

you probably wanna set a time limit on some tasks hehe
