actually none of you people know who i am lol.
i used to be a fleet admiral before i left.
was playing eve online and remembered that, compared to darkspace space combat it was nothing .
eve is great but in darkspace the fighting is..different
anyway i decided to come back, my old email was ruined, and i just wanted a new account.
so here i am, back again and i have the lowest rank possible.
but seriously im curious is the game still active?
do people still play it or did the player base shrink?
and are there any recent important updates the past year?
last time i played was 2010.

There are times where it's busy and we can get battles of around 12 people, maybe more.
The 1.7 update is in the works and will overhaul much of the game (hopefully for the better)
When that happens, maybe we'll get better player retention and more players returning to the game.

yes there are some changes.
-Icc has no more def mode.
-the missiles fly in an arc now so there is less FF.
-Pulse shield only blows up enemy missiles (50%)
-ECCM "ping" doesnt work like a sonar anymore, just basic signature raise.
-Planets get captured if you orbit them, inf bombing is still needed eventualy.
-Ugto armor has changed, currently Ugto is the lowest populated faction,
Planet defenses are a little weaker.
-Each planet only allows one depot (which is as strong as ~5)
-interdictor ship is gone
im sure there is more, ask Ugto and Kluth players

Defence mode wasn't removed.
Pulse shield doesn't only blow up 50% of projectiles.

Pantheon I was reviewing the release notes for 1.672 and under the ICC section it rather clearly states that:
* Defence Mode removed.
Was this an error? if so how can we activate the defense mode? Because the hotkey that I remember activating it no longer works.
If you could clear this up I would be most grateful.

The mode got removed, the effect did not.

Well yes, the toggle for def mode was removed, it was just changed over to the new 30 second out of combat timer that boosts armor repair and shield regen
It wasn't that UGTO armor was lowered, armor and shields in general got an overhaul, see the devlog for full details
Pulse Shield is supposed to have a 60% chance to destroy each individual missile or fighter in range when it's used
Flux Wave was changed to no longer damage allies
Cloak can't be broken by ECCM or Beacons anymore, but higher signature causes it to use more power
ELF had it's rate of fire increased and doesn't totally suck anymore
Fighters now turn around before getting into PD range
Particle Cannons had their damage falloff increased
Gauss Cannons had their projectile speed increased
Interdictor gadget removed and replaced with swappable AOE field gadgets that have various effects on allies and enemies, check the devlog for full details
New ship models for all 3 factions by Light of Aurora and Kenny Naboo are in beta, as well as new ship layouts up to Cruisers and a new MV map coming with the 1.7 update
Killboard that tracks who killed who in what ship, with totals broken down by faction updated almost in realtime
Server costs bar added to the website, shows % of expenses that has been covered each month
All in all, a lot has changed. I highly suggest checking out everything in beta.
