First off, i would like to say thank you, I have been playing for nearly a decade, and the game is just as fun as it used to be.

I have seen that you guys are hosting through NFO, and was wondering what kind of resources the game needs to run... id be more than happy to donate some server space if it would help you out. I have plenty of system resources/bandwidth at my disposal, and would love to help out. (I currently own a Minecraft/source hosting company)

Glad to see everything is still up and running.

Thanks,
Steve

We need eight cores at as high a frequency/IPC as we can get (dedicated to the running of the game), that cannot be access by anyone but ourselves (for security reasons, obviously), many interconnects to CDN's (Level3, etc), and a boat load of bandwidth.

Memory isn't a huge issue, but 8GB is about as low as we'd go.

Well lets say you had 16 cores (4x 8386 SE Opty's) and 64gb of memory... Id say that would do the trick. i can provide secure access.... Maybe like a trial run on a beta server or something? Let me know, you can also email me: Steve at Kaaos-gaming.com

Thanks,
Steve

Before I do however, what sort of connections does this server have?

Having it in a basement of a house isn't an option - it needs to be a datacenter with a good connection to the rest of the world (preferably east coast America-based).

It's on a 75/20 Meg connection at my office building. Backed by server grade battery backup.

Edit: Sorry forgot to mention i am located in Tampa, FL.

The connection would be a huge issue. The speeds aren't that bad for the game servers, but then you factor in the client and content downloads, and the interconnections to the rest of the world...

I've sent you something for your generous offer. Though no doubt you don't really need it...

Thank you tremendously for the offer, a server like that would be a godsend for us; it's just a pitty the connection isn't data center grade.

Ok, i have been getting some quotes, and i have decided to move to a data center. I will have it moved in the next week or so. I am still working the logistics, and seeing what i can afford bandwidth wise. What kind of a connection does Darkspace require?

I could donate a connection we would dream about. (IPTP)
But unfortinatly i can only 'donate' some third hand equipment, that i would find unsuitable for DarkSpace.

Idealy would think a 2 hop Unlimited 100mb connection, to be sufficient.
However a 1 hop 1gb with redundancy to the server would be a premium.
Ofcourse this all at datacenter level connections. So everything inside the datacenter beyond the cabinet is redundant and powered by UPC.

Don't know how much servers you are moving but you might want to look at a professional router or even managing your own server connections (a switch, but be sjure to do this redundant to).
But you might just ask the datacenter helpdesk about what they think would be suited best to your situation.. usually they do help there customers with advice. (do this before you are standing at the front door with your servers)

Last;
Thank you for the offer. Lets hope the best.
E.
